If I use Google to map and plot out a cue sheet but want to also use a generic or Garmin 305 gps, how do I convert the info from my computer to my device?

The Edge 305 is not capable of loading ANY map data. If you want street level maps on the GPS, it is not possible.

But street level maps are only part of the picture. You really do not need them. And here is why!

The 305 can hold up to 1,000 waypoints. A waypoint is simply the latitude and longitude of a turn, rest stop, start line, finish line, strip club, bar, or anything else you want it to be. If you have your cue sheet, just get the lat/long of the important locations (turns, stops, finish line) and enter them into the GPS. Then create a route (enter the waypoints in order - from start to finish). Then just have the GPS follow the route. On the map screen (looks blank unless you have entered waypoints) you will see a line representing the route, complete with turning points. You will have the distance to each turn, and you will know if you turned the wrong way (distance to the next waypoint increases, not decreases).

It takes a bit longer to do - but in the end it does the exact same thing as street level mapping does.

Thanks for the reply. So how do you download a route plotted with google maps to any gps? In other words, just how do "you" do it and with what device? I will be purchasing a new gps for my car but really just trying to learn at this point. I have an old generic brand gps and need a backup for it. Is there a way to download a bike route to it from google or anyother site?
Anyone doing it with their gps?
