Replacement for Forerunner 201

I'm looking for a replacement for Forerunner 201. Had it for many years and whilst it's given me great service with all the new gadgets out there, I've got a yearning for something with a few more bells and whistles. Will be mainly used on MTB, so wary of anything that is too delicate or fragile. I've been thinking of a 605 or a 705 Read the hype but would like to hear from exisiting owners - would you buy another one? If not, what would you buy instead?

what about a 500? That looks like a great GPS device, plus you it is ANT+ compatible in case you ever wanted to use a powertap. And I think they are only around $250, if I remember right.

I replaced my ForeRunner 201 with an Edge 705 because I wanted maps in color and a barometric altimeter (which the Edge 605 lacks) for cumulative climb. If you don't need maps, go for the Edge 500 instead. It has a barometric altimeter. You won't miss the serial interface on the ForeRunner 201; USB is much more convenient. The newer-generation GPS chips also sync much faster to satellites.
