Would you buy this?

Here is the ad:

"Selling my Turbocat 19 watt bike light. Used for 5 trail rides, and packed away. Excellent light that is made out of CNC aluminum and very bright.

Light includes light, nickel metal hydride rechargeable battery and charger.

Retail price is $190, I'm asking $85 obo "

I'm concerned that the battery has been in long-term storage and may be of a type that loses its ability to recharge if allowed to run down completely . . .

What do you experts think? Thanks

If it is a Nickel Metal Hydride battery, you should be concerned. If it is Lithium Ion or NiCd, it will be fine.

Uhm nope. Nothing halogen anymore these days. Then again, anything is a good deal at the correct price.

Not likely, already have much better lights. Not enough info really, though. Model number? What type of bulb? Probably overvolted halogen. Lumen/flux rating? What is your intended use? NimH batteries are better than NiCad IMHO but the battery/charging cycles could still be a problem. You can do better new with the LiIon batteries and LED technology IMO, even if it costs a few more $ the warranty can be well worthwhile.

Considering you can get a new MagicShine with a warranty for about the same price I'd say no.

Currently Geoman Gear has the version with an updated waterproof battery for $90.

Well, I decided to order the $90 one--got halfway through the ordering process and find they want $25 to ship--haha--when pigs can fly.

Must be the cost of living in Hawaii. CONUS shipping is less than $9.

The USPS is cheap on parcels that size--I've gotten the impression that Geoman is supposed to be a good outfit to deal with, so I sent them an email requesting that they ship it to me via the USPS--we'll see what they say.

EDIT Mr Geoman replied that they could ship to me by USPS. While talking to him I asked him to address the issue of weak links in the light on this thread:

Sold my Arc HID few months back.. Battery would only hold 1/2 charge.. Still got a decent amount for the light.. Charge the battery and do an honest burn test to determine what the current state the battery is in.. Be honest with your assessment of the light and battery and the market will give you what its worth..

I was a prospective purchaser, not the seller. I have moved on to checking out the MagicShine.
