Magnetic Computer Sensor Replacement

Anyone know where I can get an inexpensive magnetic spoke sensor for a computer. I have a cheap Schwinn Computer that was on my family riding bike and when I sold it, I forgot to take it off :bang:. I thought I would put it on my wife's bike just because it is in like new condition. When I went looking for the sensor, I couldn't find any online that weren't as expensive as just buying a new computer.

Thanks

If you are looking for something at some particular price, you should tell people what that price is!

People here probably have no idea what you paid for your computer and are probably not inclined to do the research to find out.

($3.99 + $4.24 shipping)

Your LBS might be a better source (or buy another cheap computer).

Sorry! I can buy a new Schwinn Computer for between $13 and $20.

I tried the LBS and they want about what you found on Amazon.

Such a waste not to use the computer, but I think getting a new one will be easier.

Thanks

You can just send an email to Cateye (They have awesome customer service) Don't go into specifics. Just send a message that your spoke magnet got knocked off and you need a new one.

I asked Cateye how to acquire a plastic lock-ring for their bike mount and they sent me an entire replacement bike mount pack for free.

If you get a new computer, order a replacement magnet at the same time so you don't have to pay extra shipping when you lose the new one. You can get a new magnet from Performance Bike for $3, which is great if you have a store nearby. (If you're already buying a computer and can get magnets cheap without extra shipping, you might consider buying an extra magnet to use with your Schwinn computer on another bike--yours or a friend's.)

I love my CatEye Enduro 8 because it is bulletproof and you can buy every part separately, so it's not a big deal if you lose parts or want to move the computer between bikes.

Oh, whoops! I thought you meant the MAGNET. Anyway, some of this still applies. haha.

The sensors are pretty much interchangable in my experience. So when I retire an old computer I keep it around. My current Planet Bike computer had a sensor die on it a few years ago, and I cut off the sensor from an old K-Mart $5 computer and spliced it on the end (use liquid electrical tape to waterproof). It ran for a few years but eventually the computer mount deteriorated, so I ordered a "2nd bike kit" from the LBS for $10 or so, which came with a whole new sensor and magnet. The computer itself is still running fine, on its third battery after > 20K miles.

yeah, I broke the wire on my Schwinn computer mount and just bought a whole new one - so now I have spare parts! :)

Gosh, my LBS gives away old wheel magnets for free. Just one of the parts they strip off of old junk.....

Sometimes, it really pays to have a good rapport with your LBS.

Spend $5 for a new unit with free shipping. Should work with your old head unit.
