Need bike computer with large screen...

I know that these little bicycle computers are more and more compact these days, but my eyes are more and more useless without glasses. I don't need glasses to ride, but I do need glasses to read, so I was wondering if anyone could refer me to a bike computer that has a large screen. Most seem to be the size of postage stamps.

REI has a closout on a 2009 model that is a wide screen (https://www.rei.com/product/806850), but the reviews I've read on it are not promising. I'm not interested in cadence, heart rate, or any of the fancy stuff. Mostly time, speed, distance, etc... Also I believe I prefer a wired unit to a wireless one, but the screen readability will be the deciding factor.

Anyone got any thoughts or opinions?

Thanx in advance,
Jim

I checked the review on Amazon, and it seems OK to me. The only problems I could find were not being able to set the time, the mounting being odd, and having to push a button (oh no!) to turn it on. I found clearer instructions on how to set it up here: https://www.totalbike.com/reviews/B000FIE3QE/Computers/
I also found this: amazon
Doesn't show the time, but the main display looks large. Could just be the picture though.

Good luck!

Thanx for the quik info. I looked at the amazon link you posted, but here is the problem with the Cateye units (https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-me...e=UTF8&index=1), they're tiny, like the others.

I really like the Planet Bike Protege 9 (it matches my white Townie), but then I actually saw one, I discovered the screen is just a hair larger than a postage stamp. They look great on my 15 inch laptop screen, but seem tiny in real life.

I may just get one of the widescreen units and give it a try. As one reader said, "I hardly ever look at it when riding anyways".

Jim

P.S. I just went ahead and bought the darn thing in another window. I thought I better grab one while they still had inventory, and it was less than $20 too. If someone here comes up with a better alternative, or if I just don't like it, I'll put it on Craigslist or something. Ugh.

Ah - well I see you already ordered one. Since I already looked it up, I thought I'd post it anyways - the Specialized bike computer seem to have a pretty big screen -

Sure. Also, by "seems to have a big screen", I mean that was my recollection the last time I saw it in person, not just judging from the picture online. :-)

The Garmin 705 is expensive, but has a large screen. I use bifocal safety glasses and on many rides leave the backlight on about 1/2 way - no problem whatsoever seeing the screen.

$300+ is a little steep for my gadget budget. I'm still using my original TomTom One that I bought before it was shipping here in the U.S.

Jim
(Hey! You're from Hollister too)?

If you're still interested, I happen to have my brothers bike which has the Specialized speedometer on it for a couple of days - I could take a pic and post it.

iPhone here too. mostly because of the BIG screen. I have also connected it to the Digifit device and speed/cadence/hr sensors. works very well for capturing my ride data. there are multiple bike related apps for the iPhone. you can choose which ever one suits your needs. they have gotten much more sophisticated over the two+ years that I have been using the iPhone. plus you have a smartphone handy for whatever else you would use a smartphone for. I really like this solution.
