Opinions of GPS-sharing websites
There are a lot of websites that let you upload and share GPS tracks, like MapMyRide, EveryTrail, etc. I'm sure these all have their pros and cons, but I'm wondering if there's one that's a clear winner, or if there's a survey to help me choose between them.

Depends on your application. EveryTrail is focused on showing your pictures taken while traveling and seeing where each was taken on a map. MapMyRide, RideWith GPS, etc. are for determining a route and sharing route sheets with others. And MotionBased, etc. are for comparing performance and improving fitness.

I use a desktop application instead of a web one. I use an HRM, which records my heart rate into the GPX files. I don't really want that information on the web ... it's only a matter of time until some insurance company finds a way to use it against me. When I want to share ride info, I tend to save maps or elevation plots as jpeg files and email them.
If that works for you, SportTracks is pretty cool software, and free.

I had been using MapItPronto for pre-ride routing, with no ability or need to download to a device. Recently I got a Droid phone and started using MyTracks to track the route and upload to Google MyMaps. I can then either leave the route private, make public or simply send a link to others on that ride. With routes I make public, I'm careful to not have my house as the start/finish.
I also track all my training activity on a vintage program called Training Log, that I've used for 13 years now. I used to laboriously write in the route description, now I just copy the Google MyMap link.
I don't like the route creator that Google uses, preferring instead the beta version of MapMyRide, which has a Droid version that I can not log on to as I'm registered to the beta version. I'll get it figured out some day.

I don't frequently use the sharing sites. I do occasionally, when I want to contribute a track "to the cloud" for an area where no tracks currently exist or something along those lines. I basically do it to improve search capabilities.
For general web posting, however, I use GMap4 and I host the .gpx or .kml files on my own website. I usually just post things on my website. For example, I put up some files for trailheads and I have one file where I'm mapping out the trails of different sorts within the city where I live.
I have used Garmin Connect, MapMyRide, and Trimble Outdoors. Garmin Connect and MapMyRide are more concerned with the statistics of the ride while Trimble Outdoors is more concerned with developing all-inclusive trip reports complete with tracks, points, geotagged photos, and text stories.
I use Topofusion as a desktop application for keeping track of my database of rides.
