If it's for a bike, get the Edge, not the Forerunner.

Beyond that, I'm not in Toronto, but I got mine on craigslist for about half price.

If you want it new, I suggest reconsidering buying it online. The local bike shops here do sell them, but buying it online saves like 30%, even when you add in fast shipping. But if you do want it now, I'm really surprised you can't find them locally -- here, all the bike shops have them.

Try The Running Room, and Running Free stores. I've heard that even Costco carries the Forerunner atleast.

not sure where you're looking but i've seen the edge computers all over. try mountain equipment coop, duke's cycle, wheels of bloor, chain reaction, etc etc etc. for the forerunner, i've seen them at mec and running room. i bought my edge 500 from duke's because i wanted the neutral colour. i bought my cad/speed sensor and hrm from mec.

ok thanks, i'll have a look.

i only checked a shop on queen street, skiis and bikes, sport chek, and then electronics stores like future shop, best buy. is MEC owned by Forzani group? if so, i wonder if my Sport Chek gift card would work there.

MEC is not owned by Forzani nor by anyone - it is the largest retail co-operative in Canada. For all intents and purposes Mountain Equipment Co-op is owned by members like me, and possibly you. Worth the 5$ lifetime membership.

It's not the only outdoor store I frequent but it is the one I go to most frequently (except for some bike-specific items). In addition to good if not extremely competitive prices and a broad selection of products, what might set them apart further is their truly excellent returns policy.

Thanks,

If and when you do purchase a Garmin unit do not forget to go through warranty registration.

Two weeks ago my wife and I were on the SRT. We noticed a Garmin Forerunner with arm band in the grass along the trail. I picked it up a stuffed it in my bike bag. Once home I contacted Garmin to locate the owner and return it to that person. But the owner had not registered the unit. I noticed that the owner's name at the bottom of the screen when I would turn the unit on. I used the Internet to track down the owner. Took about a week to get it back to him.
Garmin's warranty registration database is also used by law enforcement to contact owners of stolen units if the police recover them.
