My Magicshine tail light review
The Magicshine tailight is a really bright tail light that can powered by a traditional 7.2V Li Ion battery or a 4xAA alkaline or NiMH battery set.
The light produces three modes via a mysterious "ring switch" - which I think I have completely figured out.
The light has a 3watt central lLED as well as ten or so useless "marker" LEDs that produce no useful light other than to fill darkness in one of the flashing modes.
The switch is an "infinite position turn" ring which relies on four internal step combinations that result in four possible conditions. ON OFF Center-flash pulse long, Center-flash pulse short.
To operate the light you simply rotate the switch ring back and fourth. There is no relationship between the ring switch position that body of the light. All operating steps are reached relative to the first user's actions.
For instance, from "off" - turn clockwise once to reach Center-flash "long" mode. Turn left (counter-clockwise), again to reach Center-flash short, turn clockwise again for steady "on" - and finally left again to turn off. It makes no difference where the ring is on the body.
By the way, only the center or ring LED will be lit at any one time, never both.
One of the reasons some people have been confused is that the "long" center-flash goes for almost 30 seconds, and then series of ring flashes. then back to 30 seconds of center flashes.
The short flash mode is the longest lasting, it alternates the ring and center flash almost equally -saving a lot of battery. The proportion of "center flashes" - which draw the most is lower in this mode.
In theory, in constant "center LED" run mode, run time will be about the same as the low mode on the Magicshine 900. When using the standard Li Ion battery conservative lumen output is at 200. However, it may be "flashing" beyond that.....
That's it.
