Question Satellite Tracking Services

Hello All,

Thru some posts on cycling blogs and a Google search, I have become aware of the SPOT Satellite Tracker (2 models) and the annual subscription that provides services for your device (tracking, calling emergency services, etc.). https://www.findmespot.com/en/

My questions: Is this the only game in town? The prices seem reasonable, but are there others in the market providing similar services? Anybody have experience with this?

Thanx!

It's not the only game in town, depending on what you are really looking for in a service. If your intention is for rescue in case of calamity, a Personal Locator Beacon like the McMurdo Fastfind does not require a subscription.

You should be aware that the Spot does not keep a good trail like a handheld GPS does and it is one of the most spotty/inaccurate GPS devices I've ever used. It just checks in with occasional breadcrums so if you're hoping for good data, don't. I don't own a SPOT but a partner brought one on a climbing trip and we used it to 'check in' with family during our trip.
