    Cables for Dynamo lights?

I searched the forum but I couldn't find the answer. I need to pick up some spare cables for my dynamo lights. I'm a complete newb when it comes to do this kind of stuff, so can anyone tell me what kind of cable I should ask for? None of the bike shops stock dynamo parts so I figure I need to go to an electrical shop.

My lights are B+M if that makes any difference.

    Thanks!

cosmetic concealment is a issue, most dynamoes use a ground screw but by using 18 guage lamp cord and crimp-on connectors continuity can be achieved. basic d.c. circuits

18 gauge might be a little heavy for this. Make sure you get stranded wire.

I would bring the old cable (or the entire bike) to the electrical shop to show them what you need. They'll be able to select and cut the wire and then correctly attach the connectors. The best connectors will be crimped to the wires and that requires a special tool. You can do the connector attachment by yourself but I'd recommend having this done by the shop if possible.

Peter White Cycles offers dynamo lighting cable and the european mini spade connectors frequently needed for dynamo light hookups. If you know the lengths needed then he can make up complete cables too IIRC. Typical bike wiring is 22 gauge wire. The best wire IMO is the Schmidt SON dynamo wire that Peter White imports. It is a very strong but flexible semi coax style of wire with the ground connector wires wrapped around the hot wires which make up the center conductor.

With modern LED lights double conductor wiring is much preferred rather than trying to do the old style wiring that used the frame as the return path and ground.
