It does work, so let's find the problem.

First thing: "Reverse GPX direction, Use current destination, or Pass along entire track" are all options. You can check zero, 1, 2 or 3 of them. Try not checking any.

(Reverse is when you want to use the track, but go back the other way along it, eg you the same track to go somewhere then go back home. Use current destination will .. um ... I'm not sure, but will keep the destination you already had programmed but use the track to get there. Pass along entire track will insist you start at the beginning and follow every curve. If you don't check it, then it will take you to the nearest point on the track to where you are.)

Thanks for your help. I tried startingthe same gpx route from home this morning, selected reverse direction and nothing else. It seemed to be doing okay until I got to the first turn. It didn't actually tell me to turn there but instead told me to continue straight. I tried turning since that was the way I planned the route. It didn't like that and told me to do a Uturn. so I did and went back and continued straight, but it didn't like that either and again started telling me to do a Uturn. I believe the problem lies in how it is importing the gpx route.

Note it is following all the roads. Then here is what it looks like when I pull it up in Osmand:



It seems to want to go in a direct line a from point to point. I also am noting that not all the points I used in RideWithGPS are in the GPX route. When I create the gpx file in either google or ridewithgps, I just put in enough points to make it go on the roads I wanted. Do I need to put in a whole lot more points or something?


After it started messing up this morning, I cancelled nav and manually set a new destination, then told it to nav to it (not follow a gpx file). This did okay. It did show the planned route to be along roads instead of straight lines. It made a couple of mistakes along the way, but at least it wasn't expecting me to cut across someone's yard!

I loaded the file you created and it looks like it imported correctly. It is no longer point to point, but rather appears to be following the correct roads. (I won't be able to actually test it until I drive home) How did you create it and what was I doing wrong?

I used the gpx file to nav home and it worked! Can you tell how you created it?

I experimented more with RideWithGPS creating gpx routes. I tired some of the other options and got it to work correctly. The next test will be to use it on a long ride in the twisty mountain roads. So far so good, thank you for your help!

Will this program use kml files?
You can map with google and export to a kml file.

After extensive testing - Osmand is close but dangerously inaccurate when navigating. I programmed gpx cycling routes and it makes so many mistakes it is almost useless unless you can see the screen to correct your own course. What I really want is [accurate] turn by turn in my headphones for cycling. Osmand tries but misses and makes too many mistakes to be reliable. I am still on the hunt.

I have used the Google Maps android app for turn-by-turn driving directions. Have not tried to do it for cycling but I imagine it would work fine.

Without getting into a long post, the new updated version of "Cue Sheet" ( Pro edition ) will give you what you want with the voice prompts. If you want the Pro edition ( ~ $3.00 ) you down load the free version and it will then ask you if you want to buy the upgraded Pro edition. There is another recent thread on this same subject that goes into more detail. In that thread I give more details.

Google maps works pretty well for cycling. But you can not feed it a gpx route that you pre determine.

cguella, before posting this you might have checked into what I wrote and whither or not it was a valid statement before dissing what I wrote. While people do make mistakes ( including myself ) such miscues from me are rare. In this case it is easily discovered with a quick search that the "Cue Sheet " app is indeed an Android app. I suspect it shouldn't be too long before there is an I-phone version as well.

Hi, My first post. Google search brought me here too. I then did a bit more digging around as I had Cue Sheet crash a couple of times on my Nexus 5 and I have found Track Navigator which also reads straight from rwgps.com and so far is looking stable for me anyway. I'll try them both out in anger and report back after a few rides.

It has the best BT and BTLE sensor support of any other Android app on the market, plus live logging and navigation for basic/premium subscribers. The app sips battery as well, 4% an hour logging GPS along with BTLE based heartrate on my Nexus 5. Give it a try, I think you'll be pretty happy with how it works.

The new RWGPS app looks interesting. A couple days ago I downloaded the free Locus app. I've been playing around with it and found it has some interesting options. Foremost is the choice of on-line maps as well as being able to download complete maps for off line use. Like "Cue Sheet" it also has the ability to import presetup routes. So far I like what I see but it does have a boat load of system options that can be confusing. Can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can test out how it works on the bike. "Cue Sheet" is still my favorite because it is so simple to use but Locus has more options for dialing in how you want the app to perform.

BTW, while on the subject of Android GPS; I was having fits this week because my GPS on my phone went on the fritz. For some reason none of my GPS apps could connect with the satellites. I was pulling my hair out because I use my phone GPS almost everyday for work. Yesterday I could not get anything to work so after looking around on the net I took the advice of someone posting up on Youtube and downloaded the free GPS Status app. The app allowed me to reset my GPS just as the Youtube vid suggested. Saved my butt ( and my sanity ) big time.

M'k. I used to use your website on my phone to layout routes and then download GPX tracks to my Garmin. I could also upload rides from my Garmin to your site by manually copying files. Then 6 months or so ago you redid your website and it be came impossible to navigate on my phone, even specifying the desktop site. I just tried it again at though it's improved, I still can't accomplish what I was able to do before. Does your phone app allow laying out routes and downloading GPX files and also uploading ride data via manually copying TXC or FIT files?

I'm not looking for a phone alternative to a Garmin, but rather being able to use the phone with a Garmin by laying out routes and uploading ride data.

We are slowly but surely improving the site for mobile users, however it's not our primary goal. We'll focus on getting an iOS app out first, and basically making mobile apps the best way to interact with our site via phone/tablet. That being said there are still easy gains around the site to be had for mobile browser user, but, we are a small team with a small budget and have to prioritize. We'll never be able to make the site *great* on a mobile browser, especially for planning, and strongly recommend a user who wants to plan routes to use an actual computer.

Route planning in our mobile apps is being discussed, but it's lower priority than getting excellent logging and navigation on android and ios. Always hard/disappointing to have tradeoffs, but that's what you get when you stay independent and avoid investment We'll hopefully have another developer mid-year which should help.

Quite well, as I could plug in a mouse via the OTG cable which made laying out a route about as easy as doing on a computer, and much much easier than trying to use a fat finger on the touch screen. This is on a Galaxy S4.

FWIW: I can also plug in a keyboard which makes typing lengthy text entries much easier. I've even used a 4 port USB hub to plug in and use a mouse, keyboard, and Garmin simultaneously.

Understood and it makes sense. It's just from my lonely little perspective, it worked fine before but subsequent to your updates and "improvements" it no longer does.
