Ideas how to fit a MagicShine tail light into a Topeak Rack
 

I have a Topeak Super Tourist DX and I just bought a MS tail light, the rack came with some mounting options but none that would work with the light (O ring mounting).

Any ideas? I don't wanna put it on the seatpost since a bag would block the light :/

A piece of plastic pipe attached to rack stays with electrical ties works.
A friend drilled holes in the plastic pipe and wired it to the light mount.

Can you post a picture of your rack?

If part of the Topeak light mount kit came with the backet to clip on a tail light, then you can make one out of an old clip and pvc pipe(slot the pipe so that the clip sit in the PVC pipe). The way I did mine bracket, the MS light can be adjusted for the tilt angle.

I was just looking at bag, can you just put the Oring through the small strap that is on the bag itself? I think the higher the better.

Yes, I just tried it and the oring can slip through the loop on the bag, however it is very loose. I think a 1/2 piece of PVC pipe cut lenghtwise will make a perfect shim. The flat side can sit on the bag and the curve side on the MS bracket.

The light does not slip at all. The oring is tight and does have some give for tilt angle. I made it so that I can easily move it from one bike to another or where I only got pannier with loops to mount the light on.

Well pretty much obvious we know but I think readers wonder also what they are. Those little dots are indicator of where the light will change mode. For each time the dots are line up, the light will change to another mode. After I switch to a mode that I want, I will rotate the ring to a setting inbetween those dots to minimize the chances of mode changes. I use to have black dots but it was hard to see them when the lights was on because it was so bright, so then I used a more brighter tape.

As it turns out, Richard had his apart and informed me the tail light uses a Hall effect transistor with three magnets mounted on the rings. If you can locate those magnets on the rings, you can mark their position like I did and know exactly where's the location when the mode will change. Then park the ring away from those maganets to avoid mode changes such as slight movement from vibration or bumps.

I devised a similar mount to attach my Dinotte tail-light to the Carradice Bagman seat-bag rack on my commuter/touring bike. Basically, I attached a PVC pipe to the rack using hose clamps. I stuffed a plastic wine-bottle cork in the PVC pipe to fill up the empty space, and cut a groove in it using a band saw so it would slide over the rack tubing.

those are some great ideas. I think using that same clip to slide it into the loop on the bag would work well too.

I've got a idea of how to fit based on the designs that you guys did...

What if I drill holes the same size as the rack mount into a pvc pipe and put a quick release binder like these (http://www.uxcell.com/alloy-seat-qui...e-p-24389.html) that way it's a design that I can remove quickly when I want to...

I'm not getting a clear picture of your idea here. Were you thinking of drilling a hole into a PVC pipe and then using the quick release to hold the PVC with the hole on the Topeak rack light mounting hole?

Keep in mind that to remove a quick release out of a hole, you still need to unscrew the nut unless the hole is slotted.

My magicshine (ordered it a couple of days ago) is coming with a helmet mount. I don't necessarily want something blocking up my helmet holes, so I'm thinking about seeing if there's a way I can zip tie that to my rack and use it for my tail light.
