In less than 2 years, I have gone through two MagicShine headlights and two Magicshine batteries. I realize the company has serious quality control problems. However, now they are blaming me for the headlight shorts -- always near the plug. Can I cut and splice the cables to make them work?

Also, any recommendations for a cost effective light to replace MagicShine? We are approaching the time in AZ when night riding is the way to go.

This shows the innards. Don't see why you can't solder the lead to the circuit board yourself.

I have 2 MagicShines and have had trouble with both cables by the plugs. It isn't hard to cut and re-solder the ends if you know how to solder wires. A better solution might be to buy some replacement plugs. I can't remember the name but I think Digikey, et al sells compatible plugs that are supposed to be of a higher quality. If you search this sub-forum I'm sure you can find the info.

There are some MagicShine 'clones' on the market now that are supposed to be a bit better but also more expensive. They've been mentioned here as well. IIRC the brand is Gemini or Titan. There are probably others as well.

Depending on how much battery life you need, you can just as much light out of a couple of good flashlights. Get some fishblocks to hold them, a couple of 18650 batteries and a charger and you're good to go. Cheaper and less to go wrong than with a MagicShine but unless you carry extra batteries your run time will be shorter.

Wow, thanks for that link to that thread. I'm CPF member but never found that thread.

I was worried about being able to connect a new cable as well. It seems like the wire takes a pretty bad "kink" as it passes the o-ring slot area. But I guess the lights will probably fail before that is an issue anyway.

I do know that the Magic Shines from Dealx were drawing more current the lights from Geoman.
