2 light setup with MS (two MS 900(s) or (900 and 1400)
I am going to go with a two light setup for MTB trail riding, and I have the 900 MS light, and was wondering what works best for the 2nd light, a 1400 for the bike and 900 for the headlight, or two 900 lights for head and bike.
Any help from those experienced at night riding would be appreciated.

I don't get the question. As long as you have a great helmet light, the difference between using a 900 or 1400 on the bike is less. Other than that, like my brain - bigger is better.

So, running a 900 on the helmet and a 900 on the bike would be sufficient?

I don't own a 1400 but heard about the two add on light on the side are not that useful. Two MS900 will for sure be brighter than one. However you might find it somewhat less than you were expecting because of the way we perceive light.
I think instead of two 900 lightset with the same optics, you are better off with different optic from two lights so that you can maximize your lumen with different beam pattern. Over at MTB forum, Geoman been recommending a 900 for the helmet and a Bike RayIII for the handle bar. Basically what that does is getting a nice flood of light in front with the Bikeray and using the MS900 as a thrower.

I would buy 2 ms900's, one of the newer xml models for more throw and the older ms900 for full flood..

I have one of the older MS900, it does not have the battery meter on it. So adding a newer 900 would give enough throw and flood to see the trails well enough to read the rocks, etc.
