Recommended Vendors/Brands

I'm starting to shop around for bike stuff, and was wondering if there's a list of recommended vendors and brands to use. I'm currently looking for fenders, safety lights, and needed tools, and am overwhelmed with the choices.

Of course there are recommendations! Three or more from each person, all different!

Brands:
Fenders: SKS
Safety lights: Not sure what you're asking for here. I recommend Cateye for rear blinkies (they're waterproof). For the front, if you need a "be seen" light, go see what your LBS has in stock. Cygolite (batteries), Bumm IQ Cyo or Supernova (dyno hub), front headlights to see with.
Tools: Buy the Park or Pedro tools as you need them.

Vendors:
Local Bike Shop (LBS). Keep them in business, you'll want to have some place that can diagnose, fix, and recommend stuff for you.
Online: take your pick. I've used, and can recommend, Performance, Velo Orange, Universal Bikes, and Bicycle Tires Direct. Harris Cyclery if you want something unusual, and Peter White if you need wheels.

Thanks for the suggestions! Lights are basically the "to be seen" variety, as 3W mini LED mag lights are looking good for the "to see" at least in the short term. I've seen a ton, including some nice ones that recharge with a USB.
