Sound system for my bike

I don't ride with headphones as I like to hear whats going on around me but would like to listen to music while riding. Is there any sort of sound system that you guys could recomend. It needs to be loud as NYC isn't exactly a quiet place. Something with an FM radio would also be cool.

I'm in a sour mood with little patience for idiocy right now, so I'll just be the first curmudgeon to state that adding sound to a bike is a bad idea.

I frequently hear motor vehicles long before I ever see them. Anything making a noise would diminish my natural "early warning system".

I have used a single earbud in monotone mode to catch NPR talk shows. Did this for a short time several years ago. Now most all NPR shows repeat another day, or I can download later. So no more sound on the bike for me.
