KS1G here (du!). Hoping time (to prepare) & the weather cooperates so I can operate bicycle mobile in the Virginia QSO Party next month. Mostly SSB & digital modes here (but if I operated more CW, my CW would improve and I'd operate more CW). I also run APRS/FM from my commuter bike sometimes (now using a VX8 & bluetooth headset) and from road bike on a local century ride (SAG comms support). I don't have an HF radio, but I occasionally buy airtime on WBCQ , Monticello Maine , and rant on air about bicycles, trolleys and trains.
WBCQ has moved their number one transmitter to 7490 kHz . (used to be 7415)
I have a Drake SW8 receiver which has both USB and LSB, AM, and synchronous detection. But it has a power supply problem. I need a 9 volt power supply that puts out 1 amp.

N3RHV here, General Class and president of the Okeechobee Amateur Radio Club, here in Okeechobee, Florida. I used to haul my HT around on my recumbent trike quite a bit, but have not worked out how to place it on my Bacchetta Strada Recumbent just yet. Would be nice to chat during the commute to and from work on the bike, but not sure what would be necessary, probably a headset with a mic and one earphone, push to talk on the handlebar and a remoted antenna for the HT....whew! Even sounds like too darn much work just typing it here....

Easy, add in a recumbent bike to the mix!
I can say that cause not only do I ride a recumbent, but I'm a HAM also, (currently listening to someone ratchetjaw on 20M on an ICOM 706....)
One of these days I might rig an HT into my bag on my bike and a remote antenna.

VE7NGR. CW, SSB, and digital modes on HF with an Elecraft K2 (also mobile with an IC-7000 and a screwdriver). FM, DSTAR, and a bit of packet on VHF/UHF.

I'm a radio nerd, but I'm no longer a ham. I tried the hammy thing in the 90s, but I soon found out the hard way that the "good ol' boys club" looked down on female hams who had technical knowledge. I noticed that the only women on 2 meters were the ones talking to their husbands to and from work. There were no female radio nerds.
After suffering two slashed tires, one broken driver's side window, and one cut coax on a $50 dual-band mobile antenna, I sent my General Class license back to the FCC and told them to cancel it. I earned that license back in the days when you had to know 13 wpm CW too.
Oh, another thing that was done to me was someone changing my email address to "d y k e@gay.com" on qrz.com's callsign database. Never mind that I'm straight. In their narrow minds, any woman who dared to explore the technical side of scanners and ham radio was a lesbian.
I still enjoy scanners though. No risk of vandalism to my vehicle from that hobby since there is no license required to operate a scanner, and your full name and address is not public record like it is with amateur radio.
Hopefully things are better nowadays, but I'm not willing to find out the hard way again.

I know I never got active because of the treatment of "no-coders;" but, what you are describing is over the top.
The really sad part is that I have no trouble believing it.

Both of these hams were rather mean to me when I was a ham, but I would never dream of doing such a thing to anyone. Stooping to their level or below is not going to accomplish anything but a fine and/or jail sentence.
They've obviously never met my wife! She was the one that drug me kicking and screaming, (but I don't need another expensive hobby!) into get my no code tech license.
The local OF's, (Oscar Foxtrots) were more than welcoming to her when she got started, if fact, she's got some long time friends from that.

I got started as a Technician class, then moved up to Tech Plus, then to General. I was studying for Advanced when things got out of hand and I said F-it!
