Using a Mobile/cell phone as a GPSS locater/tracker

I have been googling and reading heaps of websites as to what to use as a tracker for my bike if it got stolen. One site talked about sticking an old mobile phone down that seat tube/post. They suggested stripped some of the things like the screen etc to make it fit. I might have somewhere else on the bike i can put a small mototrola flipout that i have spare. I know it sounds like a waste of a phone but it is a spare. Motorola have this site https://portal-moto.svcmot.com/moto-web-portal/?l=en_AU . That locates your phone. Anyway lemme know what you think and if you have better no budget suggestions as i am on a pension and not willing to spend stacks of mo0ney :0)

Wouldn't that require you have an active cell phone account on the phone? That could be expensive.

That motorola tool looks a lot like Seekdroid. If the flipout doesn't end up working, seekdroid can extend the set of candidates to all android phones.

The thing that I would worry about with this kind of thing is battery life.

What is extending a set of candidates? Sorry don't know what that means :0)

Yeah i think from memory it has a pretty good life. Not as good as some nokias but they go on a semi sleep mode and it can be good. Anyway will be able to experiment when i get my bike back from the repair shop. It has some kinda motor problem(ebike)
