Sigma BC 2209 MHR issue

I'm hoping some other folks have this computer so I can get some insight. So this is totally wireless with separate speed sensor, cadence sensor, and heart rate monitor. I called Sigma before I bought, just to make sure you could mount both the speed and cadence on the rear end of the bike. The guy I spoke to said it was okay and that a few guys in the local Sigma office had theirs set up that way. So, I had mine set up with the speed sensor up on the drive side seat stay near the V-brake stud, and cadence sensor on the the non-drive side chain stay. When I had the bike set up on the trainer indoors everything seemed to work okay. However, out on the road I usually get one or the other sensor refusing to send data. Today I removed the speed sensor and placed it on the front wheel only to have the cadence feature appear to vanish entirely from the selections options. When I got home I played around with the sensors a bit but didn't change the location or position of anything. I got both speed and cadence to function properly but I have a feeling that come tomorrows ride into work and one or the other will have screwed up again. I'm at my wits end here and I can't call Sigma until Tuesday of next week on the off chance that my problems continue. I have no battery packs or other magnets or anything that might be interfering with either sensor.

I do not have the problem, but I am looking to buy Sigma 2209 soon. What do you think, is it a good computer? (of course when it works.))))

Well, (knock on wood) it seems as if the cadence sensor might have started behaving itself. As far as my opinion of the computer - I have to reserve judgement until I've had it a bit longer. What I can say about it at this point though, is that it will do pretty much almost everything the (much) more expensive Garmin Edge 305 CAD will do. Also, you read a lot about how the Garmin mounts are pretty weak and a lot of them get broken because of that. The Sigma mounts pretty securely. Other than that, I can vouch for Sigma having good customer service. They answer the phone pretty quickly and you will talk to a real human who will help you troubleshoot whatever problems you're having.

Kinda late reply and I don't recall if they use the same tech but I use the Sigma ROX 8 and 9 on all my bikes. I also have the sensors on the rear but would have the same issues you described early on. I resolved them by installing all the items inline on one side of the bike. I standardized on all my bikes on the non-drive side and even have the computer set just to the left of the stem. I would get that weird sensor switching thing when I would try to cross the center of the bike with any combination of the sensors and the computer. The issue went away if the speed sensor is up front but I wanted it in the back so this is how it had to be.

The Sigma wireless stuff only tries to sync when it is first attached to the mount. Someones the cadence sensor or heartrate monitor won't show up on the display. Removing the computer form the mount and putting it back in will trigger a sync, all your data should show up.

Well, at this point Sigma sent a second cadence sensor which also didn't work so I called them and they're sending a whole new computer out to me once I send everything back to them (tomorrow). There was one review on Amazon from a customer who had similar issues. He would have sensors routinely cut in and out and eventually they stopped sending data altogether. In that case Sigma thought it was internal electronics in the computer so as in my case they sent him a whole new unit which apparently worked flawlessly. We'll see. I intend the second time around to install all the sensors on the non-drive side and keep them all on the chainstay. I was concerned about possible cross-talk issues but the guys at Sigma said the sensors can be right next to each other and not cause any issues. Also, apparently several guys in the office use the same unit and run all the sensors on the rear without issue. Well, we'll see what happens. I'm guessing it'll be the end of the week before Sigma gets the return, even though they're in St. Charles, Illinois and I'm in Chicago. So, it'll probably be middle or end of next week before I get my new computer.

What was your final results after the replacement?

Also why are you wanting to put on the back wheel vs. the front?

I has an inssue with my 2209 Cadence when I had the computer on right side of handlebar. It would test ok when I had up on workstand but not when riding. What I was doing and not realizig was turning the bike handlebar so I could see the read out which caused the computer to be able to read sensor. After I figure what I was doing I just changed to the left side of handlebar and all works fine.

Long overdue update to this thread:

I received that new computer and installed it 100 percent as per the instructions. The sensors all had the exact amount of distance, etc. I even tried two methods of installation - speed sensor on front wheel as well as trying it on the rear wheel. Obviously the cadence sensor sits on the chainstay regardless. The computer itself was mounted to the stem, again as per Sigma's instructions. The computer head unit is supposed to be able to be mounted on either the stem or the handlebar. Nowhere in the instructions did it mention anything regarding sight lines for signal transmission, as some posters are mentioning better behavior from the unit on one side of the handlebar versus the other. I ended up sending the whole shootin' match back to Amazon for a refund. I then road for the next several months without a cycling computer (this was back at the end of October). I kept researching the wireless computers that would have cadence and just didn't like what I was seeing with a lot of them. Many seemed to have bad reviews regarding sensor issues and such. My take away from a few months of research is that a lot of wireless bike computers are not ready for primetime, especially on commuter bikes where there may be LED lighting systems (often don't play nice with wireless devices). So, I decided to look at the wired units. I ended up deciding to give Sigma another chance with their BC 1609 unit which is wired with cadence and is compatible with a PC docking station. So far the computer has operated flawlessly. Set up was fairly straightforward, and although the cadence wires seem to limit the mounting options, I can't complain too much. The unit is more simplistic than the BC 2209 MHR which is just fine. I have a stand-alone Timex HRM which works just fine and is a more programmable unit than what you get with a lot of the wireless all-in-one bike units, as it has zones and many bike units don't. Anyway, I can now recommend the BC 1609, with the reservation that it does require running of wires, but on my commuter/tourer all those wires just make it look more utilitarian. My final verdict, is that a wireless unit that is so finicky as to require careful mounting of the sensors and head unit and other finagling like removing and reinstalling the head unit, is all too much hassle. A bike computer should be a useful tool that simply works without a lot of messing around. The BC 2209 MHR was anything but that, while the BC 1609 fits the bill quite nicely.

After a trip, the 2209 show TRIP CLIMB in feet and the MAX ALTI in feet. When I import it into Data Center 2.1, it shows on Uphill tab that matches the TRIP CLIMB and the Max altitude that matches the MAX ALTI. The Downhill tab shows Altitude but 0 ft. How do get to show downhill as well as the uphill? I definitely when some downhill
