Garmin eTrex Legend HC - Anyone else have one?
I purchased one of these a while back for hiking but really never got into hiking. lol Now it sits on my dresser. It's a nice unit but has some disappointing features like battery life and loss of map detail once you start moving.

Does anyone else own this model or something similar that they may have installed on their bike?
I like the idea of having a GPS w/map on my bike but if I stick to bike trails I doubt I would ever get lost. But knowing me I'd take one wrong turn and would get lost.

Anyone?? *sigh* Seems like this is one Garmin product that wasn't very popular. I'm beginning to see why. Oh well....
I only paid around $100 for it so to me that's throw-away. I might just save up for another brand that is more meant for cycling, not hiking.
I seem to be talking to myself now...ok, carry on. lol

I have an eTrex Legend that I used as a bike computer prior to purchasing a 705 so I could collect data for my rides. The Legend has several functions (display fields) that are useful for cycling, and it was weather/water-resistant; I was also able to find a handlebar mount for it. My kids had a blast geocaching with it too.

Yep, that's why I bought it...hiking. And for that it's great because that's what it's designed for so I shouldn't complain. But, I noticed when you get moving more than walking pace the map loses detail and all you get is a boring line and have no clue what's around you. I looked in every possible setting and can't see a place to even edit that. Also, the batteries don't live up to the listed time in the manual. I'm lucky to get two hours on a fresh, quality battery. That pretty much makes it useless to me unless I want to carry a pack of batteries everywhere. Maybe I have a lemon... (Shrugs) I'm glad you enjoy it though!
