Considering that bicycles pre-date the automobile considerably, at one time that may have been considered an excellent bicycle light for use by a bicycle commuter who preferred a bike to a horse drawn carriage and didn't want to walk. If it is actually a genuine pre-1900 bicycle light that is a genuine rare antique to a collector it may actually be worth the asking price.

I have a friend who rides a recumbent and actually has a carbide light that he can mount on his bike. It produces a pretty decent amount of light.

Carbide headlamps were very common for spelunkers exploring in caves ..
not much wind down there to blow out your flame..
acetylene is the gas made and burned in the process,
but obviously open flame is NFG in Coal mines ..
