flashlight bulbs for the low-tech crowd
I've often wondered about the differences in Xenon and Krypton replacement bulbs for flashlights, such as those found at Wall-Mart etc. So I did a web search and turned up ton's of info, most of which I passed over as I am too tired tonight to get much done. However a quick glance through some of the sites indicated that the Xenon will give more light, with less heat than the Krypton. The Krypton bulb will not last as long as the Xenon, and generate more heat. You may be able to get a little more out of your old school flashlight by simply changing to a Xenon bulb. Wall-Mart sells a two pack Xenon bulb for $2.88.
Here's one site, there are many more. Bear in mind, this search was for simple upgrades for simple flashlights, shy of going to LEDs.

Just sayin...
On edit: I installed Xenons in a few flashlights I had laying around, and I'd have to say they were worth the $1.44 as an upgrade.
