Cyclemeter Users: Can you help?

I'm a new Cyclementer app users and have been using it to record my commute rides to work. I ride the same route every day. I very much like the feature of the program that updates me on progress every mile.

The problem is that sometimes the mileage is wildly incorrect. For instance, look at the image below to see where the exact same route is off by almost 50%. Instead of ~9.5 miles, it recorded this morning ride at 13.62 miles. That's crazy. And I knew it because the first status announcement was was too early in my ride.

I've seen this twice now (I deleted that ride because it was altering my average speed, distance, etc).

Any ideas why this might happen?

Make sure the GPS has settled down before you ride.

Noticed this much as a problem on my iphone 4. the iphone 5 seems to be dead on and settle out very quickly.

Also, I did have to restore my iphone 4 once. The GPS was all whacky. Took it to the apple store and the genius there ran a diagnostic. A part of the system was screwed up and running slow. When I restored and reset it all, that fixed it and the GPS worked much better.
