Amsterdam Royal 8 - Best way upgrade to a Generator Hub? Options?
My wife has the Royal 8. Aside from the crummy skirt guard popping off all the time (have they fixed this yet??) she is not so stoked with the little tire powered generator light. It is both a little weak in terms of brightness, and has too much resistance (granted they are way better than way-back-when).
As a Xmas gift I wanted to give her a similar set up to my Breezer Uptown 8 (likely better than my light). A nice Nexus front hub powering at least a front headlamp "maybe" a rear (it has a little battery one in back stock).
Would changing out the bulbs on her front light to LED make a big difference in brightness?
I was thinking, if we decide to change out the front lamp as well as the hub, I might go for something with 200+ Lumens. Whatever is the best option out there and not more than $300 for a really awesome light. Ideas?
What is the best means of adding a generator set up? Entire new wheel/perhaps a nicer wheel set up front, already set-up with a generator and light? Or, lace it into the stock one? Keeping in mind, the quality of Electra's wheels are certainly nothing to scream about, but she rides this bike so lightly that it is not a concern.
I also understand that Electra is now putting the generator hub in the wheel. Would Electra be able to sell the wheel ready to go?
I work at a shop, so the cost to set up is fairly moot since a co worker will do the necessary labor for beer and a burrito.
Thanks for any advice!
Kenny

Check PeterWhiteCycles.com. He seems to be the expert on generator lights and carries all levels.
"32 spoke wheel with Sanyo H27 hub, Mavic XM-317 26" rim, Wheelsmith DB14 spokes, (wheel built by me), Velox rim strip, Busch & Müller Lumotec LYT N Plus LED headlight with "Standlight" including fork crown mount, Busch & Müller Toplight Flat S Plus taillight with standlight (mounts to rear rack) and taillight wiring including all connectors: $225.30" https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/sanyo.asp
That sounds pretty complete to me, and within your budget. It isn't high end, but much better than what you have.
