How to use zoomable flashlight for bike headlight?

When you use those zoomable flashlight as headlight, do you zoom in to a bright spot, or zoom out to max flood? It seems to me the max flood is better: making you seen, and illuminating your surrounding well. I got one that, at maximum zoom, is like the light surrounding a ballet dancer on stage---do you know what I mean? It is completely even brightness, not like a bright center surrounded by weaker cone. Is that good or bad?

You adjust to where the beam pattern is the most useful for you.

I think somewhere in the middle is best for riding.. Some of the zoomable slide open very easily when you ride.. Sometime you have to find the setting you like and tape the light into that position, otherwise it opens to full flood..

You're in New York city right? For me the most important
function of my helmet light is helping me go around potholes,
glass, etc. My light doesn't zoom, but if it did I would set it
to throw.

Thanks. You mean, from your video, you rode your bike from the streets straight into the subway train? The end of the video should be very interesting for a foreign tourist to see what it's like to take NYC subway (note the passengers were all stone-faced ).

That wasn't the subway, that was PATH, the subway-like train to New Jersey.

I usually keep my zoom light on wide open as well. The zoom seems to concentrate the beam too much.

I really like this zoomer. It is cheap, small, and dam good. The cost is under $8 and it can really be my main headlight if need be. Lately I have been using it on my helmet.

Also, I have used this as a front headlight only, and it is good for being so small, and inexpensive. The zoom works by turning not push and pull. So, it holds its position over bumps.
