LED Light Strip For Downtube Mounting Help Needed

I once saw on the forum, an LED light strip that could be mounted on the downtube of a bicycle. It came in several color choices and gave the ground beneath the bike a glowing effect.

Q: Could anyone please point me to a link for such a LED lighting system? Please advise. Thank you.

Google is your friend. http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Bike-Lights/ , for example, is a good place to start.

There was the Down Low Glow (http://rockthebike.com/the-down-low-glow/) but they've suspended sales until they release a new model, which I don't know when it's due out.

You could also hit up eBay for some LED wheel well lights, which could easily be adapted for that use. I've done that to mount on trailers, and the system I bought even has remote control selectable colors and flash modes!

bikebrightz- http://bikebrightz.com/ similar to the DLG and you may find something of interest from fibre flare http://www.fibreflare.com/products/ or do a web search for "el wire" without the quotes.

Thank you all for the help. Yes, Bike Brightz was what I was thinking of. I found some on amazon.com However, the reviews were not all that favorable.

Q: Has anyone on the forum actually used a Bike Brightz on their bike? Please advise. Thank you.

Put this into the search box on Google- bike brightz and bike forums. This will bring up threads that discuss this product (apparently I started one of them) that have been archived here on BF as well as reviews from the various cycling related blogs like Bike Commuters and at sites like mtbr and brol

I'm moderately satisfied with my two amber Bike Brightz. I mount them on the left and right sides of the downtube, pointed towards traffic oncoming from the sides.

They're not elegant. I put two pieces of inner tube around the downtube, under the zip ties, to protect the finish. The sliding covers to the battery compartment are slightly problematic. And the rechargeable Eneloop batteries are tight enough that I have to fish both of them out with a small screwdriver.

But the lights are functional; they put out a flashing amber light which is highly visible to cross traffic at intersections, etc. And the batteries do last a long time between recharges.

Of the five reviews, there was one one-star and one two-star review. Both had problems operating zip ties. Both had no experience with riding in the rain but were certain that these would fail. The one-star reviewer thought he was getting a pair of lights when they are actually sold singly. Then there are two five-star reviews and one four-star.

I can work a zip tie and the reusable ties provided with the light are fine. I don't frequently use these lights in rain and have no problem there. And the cost per single light is on the low end of the cycling equipment scale. So other than a comment about the battery compartment I don't have the problems that the unfavorable reviewers have.

    Athens80,

Thanks for your posts and comments. I went ahead and ordered the Bike Brghtz from amazon.com They should arrive soon. BTW, thanks for the heads up about the reusable zip ties and inner tube pieces to protect the bike frame. I'll be using eneloops and hope it all works. Safety first.
