On occasion when I'm riding where I don't really need the Dinotte 300R for safety purposes right awau, I'll ride with it mounted, but turned off. On a long ride, such as a century ride where battery life is a concern, I'll leave it off until I either hit traffic or it starts to get dark. Sometime later in the ride, several hours after starting, I try to turn it on and the white button does not spring out to allow the double-press to turn on. I push the button, and it says in, or lazily comes slowly back out. Is my unit defective, or is this an 'undocumented feature'?

Never had that happen in the year I've had it, but Dinotte has wonderful customer service. Call them up!

I got my 300R for Christmas, so it's not that old, but I haven't had that problem. I turn mine on/off several times during the ride as I transition from the road to bike path.

E-mail sent. We'll see what they have to say. Now that I think about the occasions where this happens, it is usually in colder weather; somewhere in the 40's, 50's, or low 60's. Upon those times when I couldn't get my 300R to turn on, I've felt 'naked'. I like my 300R so much and the results it gives that I'm going to order a 400+ later this week. For me, I can't have too much visibility. There is a whole different level of 'respect' I get from cars once I started using the 300R.

Dinotte sent me an e-mail and my problem is not unknown, just unusual. It is such that the units are waterproof - very much so. It has been discovered, by a pilot user of Dinotte lights, that when the units are at altitude, due to the differences between atmospheric pressure, a bit of air 'leaks' out of the lights. When back on the ground, this creates a slight vacuum inside the light so that the button when pressed in does not come out very easily or sluggishly. The solution is to unscrew the lens, peel back the membrane slightly to let the internal air pressure equalize to the ambient pressure; then reassemble the unit.

I have done so, but do not know for sure if my 'problem' is fixed. My 'problem' only seems to happen in cold conditions, and unless I get back to the beach on a foggy day, I will not have a chance to test it out. If it is fixed, I will report back one last time. But, the analysis and symptoms cause me to believe that the issue is solved.

Just want to give an update, because someday in the future, someone will actually use the search function about this issue.

Since I released the vacuum inside the light, and having used the light every time I ride ... the issue seems to be solved. Some of my rides are in the evenings, after sunset, when it starts to cool off. No problems at all. I'm a happy camper again.
