Pothole Detection System???

http://www.gadgetreview.com/2013/05/...-potholes.html

---------------------------------
Looks really interesting...and unique. If it becomes commercially available and the price is reasonable, then yes I would buy a dozen for all the bikes I regularly ride, not as a replacement for current headlights, but as a supplement to them. The current headlights hit the road starting about 10-12 feet in front of the wheel, this unit could easily fill in the area from the wheel out to 12 feet and add some collision detection and avoidance which is arguably needed.

Comments? Has anyone seen similar that is actually on the market for sale?

This has already been discussed here in another thread.

Are you sure this thing will cover that much ground? From the article:
Quote:
normal mode will display a 140 x 180-mm (5.5 x 7.1-inch) grid, the high-speed mode ups the area to 140 x 260 mm (5.5 x 10.2 inches) and the “team” mode widens the grid to 300 x 200 mm (11.8 x 7.9 inches).
That aside, I will reserve judgement until such time as I see it in action as a supplemental light where it isn't washed out by a primary light or ambient light sources.

From the size of the pattern mentioned above, the pics on the website seem to be pretty optimistic.
I also think if you're going slow enough for that to be of use, you may as well be walking. Will be interesting to see this when it's being used in the Real World. I could also imagine this causing one to watch nothing but the grid and becoming another scratch on a parked car's bumper. I don't know ... wheel chair use maybe?
