Hey there, greetings from Colombia!

I use my bike daily to go to work (The temp here is around 33C-38C or 90F-100F). I also go in night rides a couple of times on the week.

What's the best cycling computer under $100?
I'm looking for something with a backlight and really like Cataye's brand but I'll take any suggestions.

I'll also buy my front and back light with this purchase (Around $100), since my Cataye and my 2 lights got stolen, hit me with any recommendation!

That is entirely dependent on what you want it to do.

For me, the Planet Bike Protege 7 is my choice. I just want basic functions, and I want it to be durable. That comp has been on my bike for 9 years summer and winter to very high and very low temps and it's always worked perfectly. It sells for about $20 US.

If you want cadence, wireless, or other functions, you should specify.

I use a Sigma 1609sts (w/cadence). It's backlit and has been very reliable for me. Granted I have not used it in cold weather, but it has held up just fine at 103 Fahrenheit. I got it on sale for around $70. Looks like Performance Bicycle has a great deal on it right now for $50US. https://www.performancebike.com/bikes...400127__400127

I really do like having a thermometer in my cyclocomputer. That said, if it's during the heat of the day, they tend to read quite a bit too high even when you're moving -- no shade right there.

With best, I mean the one with most features for that price.

I really liked the Sigma 1609sts, looks pretty clean.

Anyone have any Cateye suggestion?
The feature that I care more for is the backlight.

dx.com sells a whole lot of bike computers. I've bought a few of these no-name cheapos, and they've worked fine.

I've recently bought several of the new model Cateye Micro Wireless, model CC-MC200W. I also have the previous model Micro Wireless and a Strada Wireless. I got a really nice deal on mine at Chainlove (Formerly Bonktown) for $35. I see Amazon has a pretty good deal of $38 right now. Wireless bike computers have really come down in price.


I like the first version of the Micro, but the new micro is larger, easier to operate and easier to read than the earlier Micro. It also has a backlight that is easy to turn on in the dark. I also like the looks of the new model.

Compared to the Strada, the addition of the extra little button in the middle makes it impossible to accidentally reset the trip data. The entire body on these models acts as a button, which makes it easy to use (especially with winter gloves), but causes an issue at times. Occasionally with the Strada, if I accidentally rest something on the computer body for 3 seconds, it resets. with the new model Micro, the most that can happen by doing that is turning on the backlight or the stopwatch function.

If you just want the very basics, and don't mind the wired ones, the Cateye Velo 8 is about as easy to operate as can be, and comes in under $20. I have one of these on my beater bike.

I put a $6 ebay computer on my new road bike this spring. It worked fine but I found that the modes were confusing and I think it lost my settings once at random, though I may have been confused and pressed the wrong button. I replaced it with a PB Protege 7 which are only about $20, are more durable and are impossible to screw up.
