My favourite combo for super bright taillight is still the same setup I made 3 years ago. Super bright $11 red led flashlight (cost $20 3 years ago) with highly adjustable mount that work on racks, handlebars, and seatposts. The flashlight is secured with a quick release, so it's super easy to take off and put on.

Where could one find such a mount? That looks nice.

I picked up an Axiom Pulse 60 from Performance over the weekend. It's now my new favorite taillight. I have had quite a few lights at this point, previously my favorite was the Serfas Shield.

This is almost exactly the same light (minus some probably marketing-driven cosmetics on the Serfas), but it's much cheaper at $40 - and it's on sale right now for $35, AND they had a storewide 20% off when I was there.

It's 60 lumens and it's quite visible to the side. I will try to shoot some video soon, though this time of year that involves staying up way past my bedtime.

The only downside to both the Axiom and the Serfas is the clip mount - if you're going to mount to a strap of some kind. In both cases, the mount is just extremely bad. It's the reason I don't have the Serfas anymore - it fell off straps 3 separate times and I lost it on the 3rd time. If you must use that mount, take extra precautions like zip ties or tape or something to make sure it doesn't fall off.

The bike frame mount, OTOH, is probably the best mount I've seen for any light. Extremely rugged and versatile.

Speaking of tail lights, Serfas came out with a really bright one called the USL-TL80 with 80 lumens of light. However after reading reviews there seem to be some quality control issues with it, one guy removed the charging cable and the USB port came out with the cord! And the way the USB port is situated only the Serfas micro cord will work. I know that my Light & Motion Vis 180 (not the micro) is built very solid.

As far as the Axiom Pulse 60 vs the Serfas Shield is concerned, how is one brighter than the other? Both are 60 lumen lights! The only difference that could possibly be going on is that one of the lights, probably the Pulse 60 because I don't see a diffuser like the Shield has, has a much narrower beam thus only appears brighter but only from a very narrow angle. Think spot beam vs flood beam. This is much like the Cygolite Hotshot, it too has a very narrow angle of light that puts out a very intense beam in that narrow path but very little off to the side thus the field of vision from a car is much smaller too. So I'm confused by the statements made about the Axiom.

I had a Dinotte, the one with 4 AA cells, not sure which one. I bought a MagicShine later, and as far as I can tell, they're the same light. The Magicshine is a little more visible to the side. The difference between that and the Axiom 60 is not much from straight behind. The Axiom is very visible to the side, it has a lot of red plastic that diffuses enough of the light to the side for decent visibility.

The Axiom/Serfas is not anywhere near as "spotty" as the Cygolite Hotshot, which is kind of a spotlight. The Hotshot seems to be engineered to look good in tests, since the center spot is hot as hell.

I'll try to remember to do a couple of tests sometime this week.
