Paranoid help! Edge 510 normal mount wear?
All,
I got an Edge 510 to replace my Edge 500. The 500 died due to a dual mount failure. I thought this was due to age but I am beginning to think my new-ish barfly2.0 is the culprit. I took the 510 on its maiden tour today and after 110KM and multiple convenience store stops the mount is looking a bit worn. Side by side the Barfly is much tighter than the garmin mounts. Is the attached what you would all consider normal wear?
The dramatic effect shadow in shot 2 may make it look a bit worse than it is...

I'm not familiar with the barfly 2.0
Nor do I have an edge 500 or 510.
I do have a edge 200 which I mount to my bike with the garmin supplied mount.
I've used it for a bit more than a year and it shows none of the wear yours shows.
If the wear concerns you, ditch the barfly.

Does anyone know if the Garmin out front mount is of the same build as the supplied mounts?

K edge and some others are making CNC aluminum stuff for the Bike_GPS people ..
but isnt that the back of the devise ? IDK dont own one..
rubber bands and velcrp straps , or just a Bar bag put it in it .
stop take it out , look, put it back in.. and then ride .

I've used a Garmin 500 for several years with their OEM plastic mount on the stem, removing and replacing it several times a week for several years. I don't see detect any wear and tear on the 500's mount tabs.

Tons of stuff on this issue on the web, and particularly on the official Garmin 500 users forum. https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?219-Edge-500
Some mounts stress the tabs more than others. One trick with the factory mount (and some others) is to sand down the top of the mount slightly so that it puts less stress on the tabs without affecting positive retention.
