Is anyone using the Di2 Wireless Sensor with the Garmin 1000? Seem to be having a problem pairing the sensor. Just doesn't see it. All other sensors (HR, Speed, Power & Cadence) work just fine. Garmin firmware is up-to-date.
Thank you! That's what I thought - also think the LBS will need the Shimano E-Tube Di2 System Check and Programmer SM-PCE1 | Competitive Cyclist which I'm guessing most shops around here won't have!
Appreciate your quick response!
Yep I found one! Thanks again!
Has this gotten better lately?
So I bought the Edge 1000 bundle on Friday and used it over the weekend. LBS set it up for me with sensors installed. The Results were varied:
Ride 1/Bike 1: Worked great. Took the heart monitor a little while to start reading, but once it did, all was well. Worked as advertized. Ride uploaded via Wifi. When I got to my computer and logged into Garmin Connect, it was waiting on me with all the cool stats and graphs.
(Between ride one and two, I went to the shop and had the LBS add sensors to my Bike 2 and enter then into the Edge 1000)
Ride 2 / Bike 1: Did an informal race. I took off and hit play on the computer. No stats. Couldn't find the sensors. I didn't have time to mess with it so I just kept pedaling for the whole race. I was pissed at the end because it was my fastest ride ever and I didn't get the stats. Turns out you have to enable/disable the proper sensors pre ride for it to work (hopefully)
Ride 3 / Bike 2: I deleted the sensors from the config that were associated with Bike 1 hoping that would work. Edge 1000 froze up before the ride at the home screen and never came back on during the ride. No data.
(Got home, fiddled with it for a while. Plugged it in, took the plug out, held the power button down for 30 seconds. It finally rebooted and came back up)
Test Ride / Bike 2: Sensors were not working. No data
Called Garmin support. Waited 30 minutes to get someone, but once they came on they helped me quite a bit. Learned a few things:
-There are no bike profiles in the 1000. They may be added in future revisions, but not certain.
-You have to know which sensors you want to use for each ride and enable them/disable all others for it to work.
-You can rename each sensor (eg. Roubaix-Speed, Roubaix-Cadence, Secteur-Speed, etc.) so that they are more easily recognizable.
-Sometimes you have to take the battery out of the speed sensor for a minute and replace it before the Edge 1000 will recognize.
-You can use Garmin Connect (only in Classic, not Modern currently) to create (and more importantly save) a course map
-When you switch back to Modern mode in Garmin Connect, the course will be there (if saved in Classic) and can be sent via Wifi to 1000
-If the course send doesn't work at first, disable and reconnect to the Wifi and it will go through.
Test Ride 2 / Bike 2: After the call to Garmin, I tested again. Once I disabled the Bike 1 sensors and enabled the Bike 2 sensors, the Edge 1000 picked them up. At first only Cadence was showing up on the ride. I hit pause on the ride and saw my max speed populate. Then I hit play and I had all of the data working correctly for the rest of the ride. When I stopped, the ride auto paused (not by default/my setting preference) and then I hit the play button again to signal stopping. It asked to end ride, I said yes, it asked to save the ride, I said yes. It said ride uploaded which happened automatically via wifi since I was standing in my garage.
So it all appears work now. We'll see what happens on the next ride. If it continues working, it will be one slick computer.
I like the 1000 so far. Just ordered a speed sensor and remote, so looking forward to adding those to the mix. I make all my routes online and save to the GPS, which seems to work really well. No other problems noted. Still figuring out the finer points and customizations, but pretty easy to use without much of a learning curve. Garmin is still updating firmware (now at v2.4), so hopefully the issues others have noted are being addressed.
Everything seems to work now for me.. Segments and text messages are now popping up since the last firmware 2.4... Before it was spotty
I started with 2.40, so I might have missed some of the pain. So far aside from one screen freeze, I think most of my issues have been user error. I need to do some more RTFM'ing on this thing before I complain about it too much. I have to say, it's way cooler than my free android app, and it should be for what it costs!
Neither I, nor the Garmin rep, could effectively save a created course in the Modern mode.
Maybe a US thing then, as I have created courses both ways in UK & all works fine. Just this minute tested creating new course using (1) method .... no problems!!!
Welcome to the world of Edge 1000!!!
After Garmin support spent over an hour on the phone with me getting my Edge 1000 dialed in correctly, Ride4/Bike2 and Ride5/Bike1 have been perfect with the Edge. It picks up everything and doesn't drop anything throughout the ride. And as I walk my bike into the garage, I hear it auto upload my ride to the Connect site. Very slick! I'm really digging it so far. Also, I created a course and put it into the 1000 before ride 4 and during the ride, it detected without me telling it that I was on that course and started auto counting laps and times. Pretty slick. I'm impressed so far.
I've had my Edge 1000 since June now... I've gotten used to of its anomalies and quirks... A few weeks ago though I plugged it in to charge it and it would not charge nor turn on. I tried the 3-button reset but that didn't work. When I first turned it on before this failure it showed 22% battery after being on the charger overnight. I then plugged it back in and the display was blank (not charging). At this point it wouldn't turn on or do anything. I then tried plugging it into my computer USB and nothing happened. I contacted Garmin, and decided to try a new USB cable so I got a new one... and then HAHA it turned on even before I tried the new cable... it was like there was never a problem, so I thought alright - must have been a 'fluke'
Then yesterday the HAHA was on me... now when I ride it shuts off every three to five minutes!! Once again, factory reset the thing, gave it a full charge... It's a good thing I also use the Cyclemeter app on my iPhone or I would really be PO'd because I'm a data fiend... Anybody else out there encounter problems like this? I'm about to request they just send me a new unit because I think I might have a lemon. Thanks!!
Someone asked about the battery of the Edge 1000. I did a ride Friday that had an elapsed time of 5:16:47 and the Edge's battery was 56% at the end of the ride. I'm using GPS+GLONASS, auto brightness, backlight timeout stays on, etc.
Have had my Garmin 1000 since July and for the most part - what a great device. I have some issues however, hoping someone here can provide advice.
1. Wifi Networks. I define the networks through Garmin Express (as instructed) and sync to my device. All works fine for a couple of days and then - both Express and the device forget all about the networks. Gets to be annoying on a secured wifi setup when I have to enter the passcode on all setups.
2. Periodically, on my ride, the screen will blank out about 1 1/2 hours in. Thought at first this was resurgence of the power off problem I used to have with my 705, but if I either press STOP and then START, or wait till the next lap update - screen comes back on. Odd.
3. Very quirky issue that may or may not be the Garmin 1000s problem. There is a 1-2 mile section of road that is on some of our routes and EVERY time, my Garmin goes nuts. For the entire section the speed readout, every 1-2 seconds, displays seemingly random numbers between 3 and 22 mph, even though our pace is relatively steady. This happens on at least one other G1000 on our rides. Doesn't do it on any other Garmin device (750,800, 810, 500, 510).
Outside of these, this has been a great device. I thought I'd miss the Bike Profiles, but haven't a bit. I have a pool of sensors set up and the Garmin picks up on what I'm using on the bike I pulled out of the garage - sweet!
Look forward to the feedback
After two plus months, my Garmin HRM that came with the bundle has stopped functioning correctly. Even though the Edge picks up the HRM immediately, my HR isn't consistently registering. I tried washing the band, replacing the battery, nada. Called Garmin support today and they shipped me out a new HRM on the spot. I thought that was pretty cool, no hassle support.
Overall, I'm still really happy with the Edge 1000 bundle. I use it literally almost everyday either on a ride or on the trainer. Auto-populating to Strava and MyFitnessPal is very slick and helps me with my motivation and success for weight loss.
Jarrett2, thanks! I finally (I know) got in touch with Garmin yesterday about my wifi issue. We'll see. Guy said it sounded like my Garmin Express was out of date - checked and I had all the auto update options set, but surprise, its 5 versions off. So, I'm going to attempt this for awhile to see if there's any difference.
Yeah, the screen blanking - doesn't even show the stop/start on my ride stats. crazy.
Had to add 1 more very positive thing - last night I used the "segments" feature - very, very, very cool tool! Have all our go zones declared and the dozen or so Garmin 1000 users are downloading for use. The autopopulate to Strava (for club use) and Endomondo (for the National Bike Challenge), make life so much easier.
Yeah, I'm hooked on segments now. I'm KOM on 5 Strava segments near where I live and I keep an eye on them :)
Jeez, looks like the 1000 is still buggy as hell. I guess I'm going to stick with my 810 which is finally working well for another season. As much as I'd love to upgrade, I look at this forum and I'm like, nah.
