Cat's Eye (rearview) Mirror on a Ergon GP2 Grip with Bar-ends?

It does not look possible to combine them. This is my very first mirror, so maybe I'm just missing something here. Thanks in advance.

It isn't possible, unfortunately. I feel your pain. I want to try those grips but don't want to live without a mirror, and most of the flat bar mirrors have an expander plug like that mirror has. That mirror might not work well on flat bars anyway, although I have it on a road bike and really like it there.

Damn... I guess I can still use it on my mountain bike. Any mirrors that DO work with these at all?

Any helmet mirror. Here's the one I use and love IT!Amazon.com : Safe Zone Bicycle Helmet Mirror : Bike Mirrors : Sports & Outdoors

Oh and btw I have the Ergon GP2's on both my MTN and Hybrid. They are worth the price of admission.

Yeah I do love my GP2 but this bike mirror seems pretty expensive if well-designed. I might just find a way to tie the Cats Eye to the handlebar lol.

That Safe Zone looks great. I use a Take-A-Look mirror on my glasses, since I always wear my glasses. Of all the eyeglass-mounted mirrors I've tried, that's the one I like best. You can also mount it to a helmet.

One nice thing about the Safe Zone is that it appears to be all plastic. Plastic is good, because in a crash, you don't want metal jabbing your eye. That's why I got plastic glasses. My mirror is mounted on wire, which is not ideal in a crash.

The wedge portion on that Cateye looks a little small, but it will probably work. My old bike, my wife's old bike, and her current bike have those AWESOME grips, and use a Mirrycle mountain bike mirror (which I think has one more joint than the Cateye also for better adjustments).

Now, installation will probably make you cry the first time (this is how I did the Mirrycle, do not know if this would work with the Cateye). Drill a 1/2" hole in the end of your GP2, right where the existing tiny hole is. Slide the small portion of the wedge thru the new hole, assemble the large portion of the wedge onto the small portion, slide the whole assembly onto the handlebar tighten and enjoy. Honestly, you can not tell what happens when it all goes together. The only reason my current bike doesn't have this set up is I went with the Ergon GP1 grips on a set of Jones Loop bars (AWESOME as well), so I was able to leave a plug out.

Oh that sounds like fun. How about posting a couple of pics showing your Jones bar setup?

Before I derail the thread, let me do some shots of the GP5 and mirrycle setup on my wife's bike.

The only spot that looks wrong is at the bottom.

Now to the loop bar. Ergon grips on the ends and LizardSkin bar tape provide texture entertainment for hands. Tons of real estate for accessories.

That's a pretty busy dashboard, @Podagrower. Also quite functional!

We do NOT recommend this! For the safety of the rider(s) and for the functionality/security of the product on the bar. Also, this also voids the 2 yr warranty on the product.

I appreciate your stance and input on the subject. I would have no expectation of Ergon honoring the warranty after certain field modifications had been made, and since the product wasn't designed to have a hole in the end, Ergon has no way of knowing what impact this would have on the products performance.

However, I'm not the first to make this modification (I got the idea from another post somewhere), so what are the odds that Ergon could work with a mirror manufacturer to make a mount that would work with the GP2/GP5 bar ends, or better yet, design the GP2/GP5 bar end to accept the common design of wedge mirrors?
