Two more rides this weekend of 50 plus miles. On the first ride I experienced the mileage doubling. As has occurred in the past it doubled after a lengthy break where I "paused" the recording. It remained doubled on the dashboard for a while, and then changed to display the correct mileage after about 15 or 20 minutes.
When I uploaded these rides to the cyclo site, the mileage reported was consistent on the various screens. This was not the case previously.
The only change from previous rides was that I set the circumference manually as suggested in a post earlier in this thread.
So at this point, I'm sort of happy.

There's a ton of little fixes that the Cylo 505 still needs. I'm going to keep it with the hopes that they will address these issues. The things that work, work well but definitely needs to be refined especially from catching performance and temperature data and porting that over to Strava if Magellan wants to play with the big boys or in this case, Garmin. The display should also at least show one decimal place for items such as temperature, speed and wheel circumference. Step it up, Magellan.

After getting past the learning curve on the Edge 1000, I am very happy with it. Works like a champ every ride for me. Firmware 2.40 is pretty solid. I'd say buy with confidence at this point.

Wow, some compromise. As long as your fine with that. I think that would drive me batty.

BTW, did a century this past weekend. Mileage doubled after every single stop. After upload Magellan says I did like 240+ miles and average like 34+ mph. Fortunately, Strava fixed it.
My last resort is to remove the Magellan sensors from the settings and see how it performs with just the satellite.

Fine with it or not, what are my options? I can't return it for a refund, only an exchange. Assuming it's a firmware/software problem won't the next device have the same issue?

Never mind. I just read the previous page about the support nightmare... If you happen to have or if you could borrow a Garmin sensor, I would try that instead.

The doubling issue is so not cool. How far have you gone into with their support? I'm using my old Garmin GSC-10 sensor and that works just fine. I suspect the Cyclo will work just fine when you remove the Magellan sensor.

any new thoughts on head-to-head comparison?
If you're using the Cyclo 505 again now that 4.1 is out, I'm curious what you think it does better than the Edge 1000, and vice versa.
I've been reading this thread and am still torn between the two; I'm going to be using one primarily for connecting to a power meter and doing intervals, but want something that will get me GPS and mapping, too.

What is the Edge 1000 like with the back light completely off in daylight? I want to be able to maximize the battery life. I have seen the Magellan 505 with the back light off and it was unuseable in the daylight.

Agreed. The 505 is totally readable during the day. It can be more challenging in certain lighting & angles with polarized glasses but overall still readable.

FWIW I find the E1K screen better all around in just about any condition than the Cyclo505. At least as of firmware 4.0 on the Mio.

I wasn't using any sunglasses. Took it out of the box and walked outside with it. I have also read in the mio dedicated forums of a few others who agreed that the unit is unreadable at zero back light - it's just doesnt seem to be true sun-light readable like the Garmin GPSMAP 62s and the Garmin Oregon 600.

Is there any word about a lap function yet on the 505? This is the only thing holding me back from getting away from Garmin products. A lap function is a pretty necessary function when you are training with intervals. I am also curious if garmin accessories work with the 505, ie: magnetless cadence sensor, heart rate monitor and I am assuming the gps tracks speed as does the garmin units? Thanks!

I have started looking into some of the GPS cycling computers. I am not really interested in training features. I mostly want it for directions, mapping and routes. I am considering using it to mix up some of my typical routes and to ride in unfamiliar areas. Any thoughts on which might be best for those types of uses? Cost is a concern and there is no need to spend on features that I will not use.
I have been considering the Magellan (315?) and some have suggested that the Garmin touring might serve my purpose. I have read a lot of the available info, but I know that the software seems to change regularly, so perhaps someone can offer thoughts based on the current offerings.

I've been researching this topic for a while too. REI members get 20% off purchases through mid-April or so, so at $250 retail I could pick up the base Edge Touring for $200. That's hard to pass up at nearly half the price of the Cyclo 315. Well, I've got a few more days to think about it... :/ ...

I have a Magellan Explorist 710. It's a hiking GPS. It's an understatement to say that I'm not satisfied with it. People have told me Magellan used to make great GPS systems but the company/name was bought and it's been downhill since then. Every Garmin I've ever had (except my Edge 800) has been buggy; Magellan makes Garmin look professional.
