who is keeping an eye on the fly6 tailight camera combo?

I know I am

And at 159$ it seems like a killer deal for a camera.

I will be awaiting its release, reviews, and who else enters the combo market.

I have my eye on Shimano's camera as well.....but no view finder and the battery sucks....

here is the rbr review.

What I need is a service that edits down ride footage into something interesting! I just don't have the time for that; I tried videoing rides a long time ago, but gave up when it became obvious I neither had the aptitude, temperament, nor equipment to make videos that were actually enjoyable to watch. Someone else to do my footage up into a vid I'd like to watch while on the trainer over the winter would be awesome!

Anyway, I'm waiting to get a drone that I can upload a pre-programmed GPS track into and that will connect with the Bluetooth in my iPhone to follow me around on a ride and keep me in the shot!

I wonder how bright the blinky is, if it can be run no blinky just camera, and if other blinkies or a saddle bag will interfere with the video.

The fly6 looks kind of long. Not sure if my current rear light and this will fit on my seat post(I do have a "healthy" amount of seat post showing) with my small saddle bag.

I may need a new saddle bag with a light strap on the back so I can run the fly6 and another light far enough away so it does not create any interference......but we will see.

Unfortunately until I am ready, I will just have to wait more information/reviews/etc, but in the mean time....lets bust out the digital internet popcorn :

I wonder when the first headlight camera combo will come out....I think we all know it's only a matter of time. Hopefully it's as sleek as this one. Uh-oh I am derailing my own thread

Interesting concept with the drone. Not sure how that would work unforeseen obstacles, both on your route and its route.

If you want to make some winter training vids do a marathon or some other event. You can edit out the breaks you take or use them on the trainer to actually take a break.

There is always sufferfest too

Obstacles! Right! Forgot about those...!

Yes, I've used the Sufferfest vids, and I really like @carpediemracing's videos for trainer work, too!

I saw a Google survey car go down the road, with it's tower of cameras on top; that'd be sweet for the bike, no? Simultaneous 360º recording?!

There is a circle of low wattage lights around the camera lens that just work when the camera is on

Yes, it's about twice as long as most regular lights. There is a new shorter version coming soon.

Fly6 are developing a headlight camera, not sure of release date, probably mid to late 2015.

@Falchoon, Thanks!

I was poking around the fly6 website and see it can handle a 32gb micro sd card? That was going to be my next question.

Also, how do I get my gf to buy me one?

Anyone seen a rear facing camera that would work "better" than the Fly6. There are plenty cameras on the market, but I specifically want one to record while I'm riding that is rear facing to catch crappy drivers license plates. I guess it would need to be water resistant, mount well, have sufficent recording capacity, rechargable, etc. I don't think I'd even watch it unless someone ran me off the road (video evidence when I go to the local police)

Anyone have a different setup?

You can just get a normal camera like a gopro or virb. Doesnt have to specifically be marketed as a "rear facing camera".

Have had my Fly6 for about 3 weeks now. Zero complaints as it does everything it says it will do. I'll be getting a second for my commuter as soon as the new model is available.

oooo shiny!!! I have been kind of busy and missed that update, thanks! It kind of looks like they took the first one and smooshed it down but I to like the smaller size! I am about to read up on any benefits of it besides the brighter light.

Is it still a 32gb capacity or can you bump it up to a 64?

As far as I have read, fly6 REALLY pushes the seat post placement. Why on the stays if you don't mind me asking?

With the smaller one you gain an hour of run time as well, other than the increased brightness and smaller size, I don't think there is a difference. I think I'll stick with the first one.....I have a tail light I would run anyways

I wonder how the batteries charge up....as in....do you have to wait for it to run down or can you charge it full after every ride? Does the manual say anything about that @cyclefreaksix

I'd use this on Brevets and theres no room on the seat post.

Tempting for the commuter but 99% of my problems are from cars blowing through give ways.

it's a good unit.. I have the larger one (since kickstarter).. 720p is "ok" really did not capture a plate all that well when I almost was head-on'd by an SUV.. see we were moving away from each other after the pass so it was tough to focus. With the vehicle approaching from the rear = no problem. I also have the rideye (another KS project) that will be my 1080p front cam.

max memory card on my fly6 is 32GB... but that will get you like ~5-6 hours I think.

I have a virb elite for the front. I've been toying around with it as a dash cam and it can catch plates pretty well, even on cars passing quickly on the highway.

I have a normal virb I got on ebay for dirt cheap. It's brand new and I was going to take the battery and mounts for it (and use for my elite because I am cheap like that) and sell it for what I bought it for on CL ....I am open for a trade, may even include the mounts

more like....can the battery handle being charged up while still having (let us say) 50% left. Some batteries require a full discharge before charging up again or you will damage it.

^ the manual mentions nothing about full discharge before charging.. in fact the unit comes partial charged when new.

I also have a garmin virb elite...but that is more for stuff I want to actually look at after the ride. The fly6 and when/if the rideye ever comes are more for protection and post accident kind of stuff.. hope I never use it.

The fly6 just got come competition

Rideye

@TrojanHorse

I like the size of this much more than the fly6.

1080p and 15 hours of run time.

I have come to realize I would not use the blinky feature of the fly6 since I have a rear light (to save battery power) and all I really want is a small camera for the back. I think this one fits the bill.

Aw snap! I searched the forum for rideye before posting, not fly6.

If I'm not mistaken, the rideye inventor is local to me (Los Angeles somewhere) and periodically posts on BF but I don't recall his user name.

Ah heck, I just ordered (preordered? Are they actually shipping?) the 8GB rideeye model to see how it works. Stay tuned.
