Garmin 920xt

Anybody using this watch with the quick release kit? Curious as how you like it as a bicycle computer and if you a runner how you like it as that as well. Debating getting a dedicated bike computer and separate running watch or just going with the 920xt to do it all.

I am using my 920XT (which I purchased around the first of the year) for all three of its main disciplines: running (actually run/walk), biking, and swimming. It works rather well for both running and cycling. Over the past several months I've got the various data screens configured the way I like them. I wear the Garmin HRM-Run heart rate monitor for all activities. While running/walking I wear the Garmin foot pod on my shoe. The foot pod especially helps with determining running pace while on a treadmill. On my Trek hybrid, I am using Garmin's magnetless speed and cadence sensors and they transmit wirelessly back to the 920XT. I never have had a dropout (lack of transmission) with those sensors. Occasionally, I have a dropout with the heart rate monitor (actually the HRM continues to transmit, but indicates no heart rate). I've attributed this to a lack of conductivity between the HRM strap and my skin. However, after I started using an electrode gel on the strap that hasn't been a problem. As far as the quick release goes, on the 920XT side of things, it is easy to install. When I'm running the watch is now slightly thicker (on my wrist) due to the quick release component. On the Trek, I have used Garmin's out front mount. The 920XT is very secure on that mount. It's very straightforward to untwist it from the quarter-turn mount on the wristband and twist it into the out-front mount. The 920XT tracks distance on the cycling activity just fine, but the 920XT does not track overall distance for the riding season. For that you need to rely on sync'ing the watch to the Garmin Connect website and running the reports that are there.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I'm using a Fenix 3 (basically a round 920XT with navigation features) and an Edge 800. No quick release kit, the watch stays on my wrist.

Compared to a dedicated cycling computer the screen is very small and doesn't display much info at a glance. If you can get beyond that, the battery life is great, over-the-air uploads are wonderful, Live Tracking feature is very convenient, and if you use a chest strap the training effect and recovery adviser are very nice to have.

Very frustrating that the watch does not support auto lap by position (only by distance) which means it's not very helpful for hill repeats.
