Anyone ever hired a decent bike in Belgium?

Yes I know you can hire bikes at about twenty railway stations and that you can pick some up some free ones from stands in Brussels but these are for a bit of shopping, not touring machines.

I write the Good Beer Guide to Belgium and I am researching for the 6th edition, which comes out June 2009. As about 20% of readers use bikes +/- trains for visiting the cafes and reweries that we recommend I am frequently asked where tourists (especially those who come transAtlantic) can hire good touring bikes.

Fifteen years of cycling round the country and five years of occasionally Googling for information have failed to find me a reliable cycle hire business to recommend.

Any ideas?

You can hire trekking bikes at Mobiel; located in Kortrijk at about 100 km from Brussels (there's a direct train from Brussels to Kortrijk). All bikes are less than one year old. If you need more info, hit me.

Thanks Scorch

If anyone wanted to start a good business in Belgium it would be in hiring some good touring bikes so people do not have to bring there own. Maybe near to Zaventem Airport or at one of the stations on the train line from the airport.

All of Belgium is smaller than the county I live in in Arizona.
