LBS in Germany
Hi,
I'm visiting my girlfriend in Germany and in her enthusiasm to get into things that I like decided to get a road bike. I've been to one LBS here (Erlangen) and they only sell Stevens brand bikes. I've never heard of it but looks like a regular giant/trek bike with a different paint job. I was hoping to see more of the brands I`m familiar with before I recommend buying it. the nearest big city is Nurnberg which is 30 minutes away. wouldnt mind driving there to get a decent bike. I am also considering ordering online but wanted her to get a proper bike fit first. Built bikes would be most convenient. Budget is anything in the 700-1000 euro range. Any leads? TIA |
a cursory glance at stevensbikes.de suggests to me that it's a good brand. if it smells like a giant or trek to you, it's probably alright huh? i'd guess you'd be doing alright if you find a bike that fits you. my question is... why the southern california forum? :P

Hi- We just bought a road bike made by a German company called Dynamics in Stadler in Berlin. The bike has an alu frame, carbon fork and 105 throughout. We got it for about e800 on sale. It also came with SPD's the ones in the photo were to cycle it home! We are pretty impressed with it and I believe Stadler have shops throughout Germany.

Looks like you got a pretty sweet deal there. I'll look it up. |
Steven's is a pretty large company, and I've heard nothing bad about them from the couple of people I know with their bikes. If you're looking for value, then it is hard to beat Canyon bicycles. They are a German company that only sell direct to the customer through their website, which keeps costs down. I've heard several good things about their bikes. One more German brand is Focus. I believe they only see through online dealers, but you may be able to find them in a LBS there.

Another good site is bike-components.de/vortrieb.com. It's the same company; parts from bike-components and complete bikes from vortieb. I've ordered many times from them and am quite happy with their service and low prices.

In the larger German cities, one can often find quality bicycles for sale via the local Craigslist ads.

I hear Storck is a pretty good German brand. They actually made Porsche branded bikes in the past but so did Votec.
