“MEET ME IN THE MIDDLE”
A PRESS RELEASE FOR THE NORTHEAST TEXAS TRAIL (NETT)

The organizers of the new Northeast Texas Trail (NETT) have scheduled its inaugural event to introduce the multi-use trail to potential users. On Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 7 am, teams of cyclists and equestrians will begin separate relays from trailheads in New Boston and Farmersville. The meeting point will be Love Civic Center in Paris, (2025 S. Collegiate Dr.) Estimated time of arrival is 12 noon. Golden spikes will be driven into the ground at various points along the route which was originally a railroad corridor.
The NETT runs from Farmersville on the West to New Boston on the East covering 130 miles intersecting with 19 different towns. When completed the NETT will be the 5th longest in the United States.
Traveling West from New Boston, a team will ride through Malta, Dekalb, Avery, Annona, Clarksville, Bagwell, Detroit, Blossom, and Reno, spanning three counties across 68 miles to Paris.
Coming East from Farmersville, the route goes through Merit, Celeste, Wolfe City, Ladonia, Pecan Gap, Ben Franklin, and Roxton, touching 5 different counties for a total of 62 miles, to Paris.
We are inviting any and all cycling clubs and equestrian groups to join us for a “leg” of this relay. We believe this trail will be a huge asset to Northeast Texas and will provide significant economic stimulus to the towns along its corridor.
For more information, find us on Facebook @ NE Texas Trail (or call Bob Mudie, 903-883-0218, Jill Drake, 903-640-6300, or Becky Semple, 903-784-2501.)
SO COME RIDE THE TRAIL WITH US!

BikeDFW is the local advocacy host for much of North Texas - so far we have 160 riders, 17 teams, and 30 cities represented. We're also featuring local photography on our landing page - a different photo each month of the challenge.

Here's some info on the Challenge from the League of American Bicyclists:

"Last year, the National Bike Challenge brought 30,000 riders together to ride an incredible 12 million miles. This year we're going bigger and farther: 50,000 riders and 20 million miles.
To get there, we need your help!

The 2013 Challenge begins on May 1. It is an opportunity to challenge yourself -- and your friends, family, and colleagues -- to ride more often.

Participation is free, and open to anyone in the United States, or who is employed by a participating U.S.-based company.

Join Now - the Challenge starts on Wednesday!

Connect: When you join, you'll see who else is riding in your community or workplace. You can invite your colleagues to participate, or pull your friends together on a team. The comments board is a great place to meet people, swap stories, and get and give pep talks.

Compete: When you ride, you win points for your employer, your community, and your state. You also become eligible for prize drawings after you've logged just five days on your bike.

Celebrate: Uniting so many riders and logging so many miles shows the impact of bicycling. You'll feel the energy as we ride together to our goal!
