Fender Decisions !
Off to the LBS this morning, to buy fenders for my Sirrus. Wed reminded me why I have them on other bikes...
Now, to try to match the silver of my Sirrus with Planet Bike Silver, or go with the Black and silver of the bike theme. Gonna get the long mudflaps too!
Since almost matching is something I don't like - I'll probably end up with black..... I wish they made them in a 38-40mm width!

I use silver because it doesn't show the dirt as much. Most of the dirt around here is grey from either salt in the winter or limestone in the summer. Grey dirt blends well with the silver fenders. I don't have to be OCD about cleaning them for the bikes to still look good.
Black looks fantastic when it's clean. But it shows all the dust when it's dry and every last droplet after riding in the wet.

I've got black on one and silver on the other. It was what was in stock when I bought them.

Well, the silver doesn't match the bike silver, so I will go back after lunch, and order the black. The color motif on the Sirrus is Black and Silver anyway! Anything not silver is already black.

You might want to check the SKS silver too who knows it may match. Longboards or Chromoplastics come in 35mm or 45mm widths in Silver and black options. The longboards have very long mudflaps. So long that I had to take the front one off and trim the fender a little then re-install it.
I prefer SKS fenders to the Planet bikes.

Plus one on the SKS Longboards. I now ride in the rain with dry feet. The Planet Bikes are less costly, but do not have the coverage of the SKS. As for color, who cares?

Another enthusiastic thumbs up for Long Boards. Installed on the 'Heavy Hauler'. Mine are silver (they were on sale, cost less than black). Installed the front fender upper mount to the front of the fork, to get more ground clearance for the mud flap.

Ron Cooper frame.
Fenders complete the look--they can be a real asset visually and of course for comfort in the rain--not needed so much in California for the past few years, but I leave them on just because they look great and keep the bike cleaner even in the dry weather.

I looked at the SKS silver, and they looked to "tried to match" just like the PB silver, and I just didn't like the looks of the SKS black. I know I didn't want aluminum or steel.
I ended up buying the Planet Bike Cascadia Road, black. Had to order the road size, so next week some day! These, being 35mm, will limit me to tire size, but I guess I can live with it because I just didn't like the PB Cascadia Hybrid, 45mm, on the Sirrus. Just looked toooo big! I can still get 30-32 tires on there if I'm careful. Besides, I have mounted a lot of fenders, and really do like the Planet Bike fenders. If my Sirrus was any color than Silver, the silver fenders would have been nice as contrast. And, since my bike is black and silver, the black does carry thru as contrast.
And, the CF fork really does help smooth the ride of the 28s that are on there now.
Now, I gotta find something else to spend money on --- LOL

I use Cascadia as well - they make 3 sizes; a 'road', 'hybrid', and 'mountain' width. I use the 'hybrid' width on my 28's and 32's and it seems a good fit. I really like Planet Bike's long mudflaps, as opposed to the stubbies on some other brands.

If you were really OCD you wouldn't settle for either silver or black. Wood fenders, available in a variety of exotics, are it.

OCDs would see them for the folly that they are, not having any sides and allowing spray to, well, spray everywhere. Plus they'd be put off by stones scratching the finish on the underside. No, I doubt OCDs would buy wood.

I know it is after the fact, but I use the best of both worlds. I prefer SKS fenders and use Planet Bike mudflaps
My wife's touring bike set up with SKS fenders and PB mudflaps.
I look for function over form. The fender needs enough clearance not to jam up in muddy conditions, large enough to keep the rider and gear train clean, and be safe and durable. SKS meets all these needs, especially with their safety disconnect front stay mounts.
An SKS rear fender that picked up some debris . The fender folded up , accordion fashion, as depicted in the drawing. It popped out with just that slight crease to show for it.
This was on my road bike which has very little clearance.

I put topeak defenders on my '14 madone. I wanted to get sks raceblades XL but my LBS would have had to have ordered them and did not want to wait. Kind of limited since they have to be clip ons. They seem to be working OK though. They are silver - I did want black to match my bike
