"Good Value" Glucosamine Chondratin Supplements

I am enjoying the benefits of Twin Labs' Joint Fuel Recovery; fresh as a daisy for the next day's ride or spin class. However, $.25 a tab seems a little crazy to me. Does anyone have a G/C supplement to recommend at a great internet price?

It might be useless snake oil, but AFAIK, it's not known to be harmful except to your wallet. If it seems to help, then good for you.

Don't know if they do any good or not, but this seems like a better deal:

Try WWW.Puritan.com

Always with buy one get one or buy one get two free.

As for the studies saying this supplement does not work. Wait a day or two, they will have another study saying the opposite. You know doctors/scientists can never agree on anything.

Stuff works for me.

I've had conversations with my primary doctor, my podiatrist (he did a surgery for me), and my nutritionist and my Chiropractor...
Ok ok so I want to stay healthy right up to the day I die....

They ALL said the same thing, they actually agreed, Imagine that !

"With proper diet and proper HYDRATION I see no benefit from taking these supplements"
The bone crack doc added, "These supplements pass right through you never getting into your joint's, they are a waste of money" My podiatrist added, "many people say they benefit from them but I don't see how, I have never seen real research on this so far" "Most of the good they do Is stated by those related to the sale and profit of these supplements."

Hey,, This Is what I was told to me by four professionals, I'm sure they are all wrong.
I used them as directed for one year for my joints,, I never felt any benefit.

IMO when people take the time and spend the money on products like these, they feel better not because of the products but because they have made a conscience effort for better health and Included better diet and better hydration and THAT is why they feel better..

One bottle I read said, "Proper hydration is Important In the use of this supplement,,,,,,hmmm get my drift ?

On forums in this free country we speak our opinions and talk of our experienses,, please don't take this as an attack on the choices you make about how you handle your health.

I'm 56 years old, I take no drugs or supplements at all and am In good shape,
I do have several arthritic joints that I manage with proper Hydration, diet, and exercise, along with stretching.

Amazon.com: great lakes gelatin collagen This helps the joints, nails and hair.

Because of this video, How to have Healthy Feet and Knees for LIFE!, I began walking for 15 minutes every other day with 5# Everlast weight bags velcrowed around my ankles about 2 months ago. I'll be buying another pair of 5# bags soon. The meniscus can be restored!

John Bergman also talks of nutrition and arthritis.
Be well aware that sugar, simple carbs, processed flour and alcohol are highly inflammatory.

More from Dr. Merritt who was a cyclists for several decades and now practices sports medicine.

I have/had joint pain and took GC for many years until they finally did some good random controlled studies and found zip. I dropped the supplements and noticed no difference. The only thing that seems to have made a difference is foot orthotics but even that may be my imagination.

Foot Orthotics as you have found out Is very expensive,, the thing drove my wife crazy,,,$350 for the molded from her foot Inserts and,,
Get this,,they cannot get wet !,, She walks or rides for a workout and her feet sweat,,,ruined a pair she did....

Then she found THE shoes,, OrthaHeel carries a shoe designed by Andrew WEIL M.D.
One model my wife loves is the, Vionic by Orthaheel, the Rhythm Is a Dr Weil design.

Fits her foot BETTER than the $350 insert and she can get them WET !,,$69,,Imagine that !
Her feet and back Instantly got better..

Yes they make them for men

Sounds interesting. My custom ($$) inserts seem to do well in my regular shoes and I use el cheapo standard inserts in my bike shoes since I don't walk much in them. I recently ordered sandals that are being built with my prescription built in. They are pretty pricey. I wish I had seen this site first since I would like to try a pair and see if they are as good. I have a lift in the heel that would not be replicated in these but who knows how essential that part is?

Sorry for a bit of a hijack from Glucosamine.

Thanks look566 rider.

OK, so this is going to devolve into a "does this stuff work" thread. It's the BF, big surprise.

Look, why don't you naysayers try it for yourself and decide, what's this fascination with what other people tell you? Try a little empirical evidence, mine says it works for some people...it's a waste of money for others. I happen to be in the tribe that derives a real benefit...thank you, I am blessed. Now I want to get it cheaper.

Since I am a Doctor, I am telling you that there is some real value in doing a little experimentation. Our time is up, thanks for coming bye.

WTH???
I have a pair of custom orthotics from a podiatrist, and they are made of solid fiberglass.
The only way to damage them would be to put them in a fire.

Fair enough.
I took Joint support with glucosamine, msm, chondroitin from Trader Joe's for over a year.
Last Nov. 1st I took most inflammatories out of my diet, lost 48# as of today, down from 265#.
My joint pain is now a non-issue. My plan is to be 190# by Sep. 1st.
I have not taken any of the remaining glucosamine since Jan.

I will continue to seek the advice of Dr. John Bergman and would suggest others do like-wise.
(most MDs are pill pushers.. my Sister heads medical case review for a major HMO )

All these supplements are absolutely useless--plenty of news reports lately describing their uselessness and frauds! Of course we all want that magic pill and some are taking advantage of our gullibility!
Save your money and buy a nicer bike.

It is anecdotal because it is not a proper experiment. A proper experiment has a control - double blind, etc. However, you are right that even poorly designed experiments and anectotes are empirical.

You don't have to read the discussion that devolves from your original post. You can just read the posts about prices and sources. But to tell us how and what we might want to discuss just because you are the OP is, IMHO, outside of BF etiquette.

I've read many studies from highly reputable medical journals about various studies. They seem to conclude that glucosamine might be helpful, and many people report very good results. If it is the placebo effect, it's worth the cost of the pills. Many studies conclude that chondroitin is likely not helpful at all. Some studies conclude that MSM is probably helpful.

Costco sells monster size containers of high-dose Glucosamine MSM. Check Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Signa...ine+MSM+costco
