A double first today
After a long time off the bike while recovering from an accident and surgery to my knee I finally got to do my first “proper” ride in almost six months. I had hoped to do it a couple of weeks ago but was laid out by a virus I picked upon my Italy holiday.
Today I felt fine so set off for a short ride and did 10 miles in just over 40 mins. All almost flat roads and a seven hours later I feel fine with just a little stiffness in the knee.
What made it even better was that I did it on my “new” bike which I had built while still unable to ride, and what made it better still was that it was my first road bike ride in 30+ years. I've tried friends' road bikes but haven't found it comfortable riding drops because of an old whiplash injury legacy, but I've deliberately set up this bike with a longish steerer and slightly shorter stem, and it seems to have worked. I've left some extra length in the steerer in case I want play about with the length as I get used to the bike.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the summer's riding, but must be careful to not go too mad as my quadricep/tendon is still weak and some of the steep hills around here could prove to be too much too soon.

This is a post I have been looking forward to reading for a while. Its great to see that you finally got to ride a bit, after that scary injury to your quad. The new ride looks sweet, too, nicely done there. Take it easy so we aren't reading a recurrence thread from you, those second tries always suck, big time.
