Just a reminder of why hills seem steeper every year.

I was riding along South Road in Chilmark (Martha's Vineyard, MA, USA) and got yet another "reminder." These three families share a private drive, and this can't be an accident.

I have a different theory. When we were kids the hills were still young and hadn't grown to adulthood yet. Over the years dust drifted down and mixed with water to create mud and pile on the top of the mountains to cause them to grow taller and naturally they get steeper towards the top and the top get farther away. At least that is my story and I am sticking to it.

I think its a balance between that, and sometimes because erosion (though not wearing down the tops) has made the slopes steeper. I believe that it is also a fact that as we age, gravity exerts a stronger effect on us (due to the universe understanding that with our years of experience, we can handle it).

Absolutely! When I was a boy we didn't have to walk uphill to school because the earth was still flat.
