Vets and retiree USAA members; pfishing attempt

Not sure if this is the right place, but there are a number of ex-military members in this forum. If you are a member of USAA be wary of any emails being sent to 'update' your security. I got one and when I clicked on the normal USAA reply I got a google warning.

When I called USAA I received an introductory voice message that they were updating their security and I may not be able to email USAA. I was instructed to try another computer or contact my ISP. Now I was really confused. The representative who answered said they have NOT sent out any emails about updating security. The message looks almost perfect except for the ragged margins and addition of a signature to make it look bona-fide. So..USAA is apparently under attack and the hackers are aware of it and may be trying to sneak in as USAA members try to update their own security. If you can't get in your normal email call them, but be careful.

Moderators, move if you deem it appropriate. The problem is I normally avoid the lounge.

? They're a bank as well. Anyway all the major comm people have caught the email and won't let it pass. I couldn't even forward it to a couple of abuse web sites; the ISP says they won't send it. Just be careful if you get something from USAA and trying to get you to log in through an email link.

Phishing emails are very common and the best response is to disregard any curiosity about links in the message - don't click on links or attachments - and to delete the message.

USAA use to have great auto insurance rates until they let ever tom dick and harry buy insurance. I have been a member what ever that means for a long time. Never took advantage of any of their programs because I found better deals else where. Do have a USAA Visa I never ever even used but did activate. It backs up the Visa that pay more cash rewards. Every time I get an insurance quote on my car, USAA is 700 buck a year higher then State Farm my insurance company since 1998.

that's obviously a phishing email, it doesn't go to usaa.com I would think it would be impossible to register a domain name like that, but I guess not

Very interesting! Every time GEICO or some other insurance company tries to "entice" me, I tell them I have my insurance with USAA and they politely back off, saying "we can't beat USAA rates, etc"... When you consider the quality of their customer service compared to other insurance companies, it's a "no brainer", even if rates were equivalent. Been a happy member for over 40 years.

OP, thanks for the "heads up" ...hate stinkin' phishers......
