    New bike related job

Hello all again, it's been about a year since I participated in this forum - as I was in the middle of so many changes that I felt a bit out of place. I'm sure you've all been doing excellently without me!

Just started a new job with a previously 'big box' store chain with cycling previously as a minor part of their car servicing and accessories business. Now associated with Olympic cyclists and with a mission to encourage cycling at all ages and levels of enthusiasm. I'll be mech.ing, selling, working with schools to encourage 'bike to school' and launching car driving training including time on bicycles to develop empathy.

    Feels purposeful!

    Best to all

Welcome back and congrats on what sounds like an interesting job. You're still located in the UK?

Hey, WOG, its nice to hear from you. Sounds like a dream job to a lot of us, congratulations on landing that position. Should be rewarding work to be a part of, and quite a change from the middle east stuff, too. Keep us posted and don't wait another year either, please!

Thanks. Yes, Brighton, Sussex, 50 miles due south of London on the Channel Coast - where it's a lovely 20 degrees C and bright sunlight over the turning orange leaves today. A delight!

Nice to hear from you too. Goodness yes, quite a change - but maybe not as much as M.E. changed in the last 2 years I was there. Unrecognisable since I first started working there in 1978 - but that's a longer story and not very bike related. Best, R

I'm happy to see you back in the UK, and not in the ME right now. With all the instability it isn't somewhere to be riding around with out a flak jacket and body armor. The area around Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Kuwait seems quiet for now. Working in a bicycle related job sounds right up your alley, stay safe and best of luck on the new employment.

    Brighton. Nice place.
I worked for 5 years (in the USA) for a company (British) located just east of Portsmouth. Quarterly trips to Havant.
    1st wife was from Hythe/Folkestone.
I like your corner of the world.
Has it changed much in the last 10 years?

    And welcome back.

That sounds like an amazing new job. Hard to imagine any of our local big box stores ever changing to where they actually cared about cyclists and cycling.

I just came across this thread. Congratulations on the new job.

Is this the company you are now working for? The shop pictured is the one I bought my first "proper" bike (Raleigh Trent Sports) from in the 50s. First photo is the late 50s, second from the late 30s.
