Rain, Rain and more Rain

Thia week has brought lots of rain to last the entire week, even before the latest hurricane has potential for even more rain if it bumps up along the East Coast. I tried the trainer again this morning for all of 5 minutes before mind numbing boredom set in. I'm convinced the crime rate would be reduced if the punishment were Time on the Trainer. Just think, the end of crime and political corruption. On the other hand, this might be struck down bu the Supreme Court as cruel and unusual punishment.

I agree. Much worse than riding in the rain. I find I can squeeze raceguard plastic mudguards/fenders onto the road bike.

Being in the back of the room with a lot of younger women in front of you at spin classes, would at least improve the Scenery.

That might be the only reason to not ride in the rain. Otherwise, "Saddle Up!" Riding in the rain is not so bad assuming its not a tsunami. For the colder days, I just have a Novava Stratos rain jacket. I guess hot n' sweaty is better than cold n' wet. The jacket counts as two layers for me. So I think its overkill for warmer than 38-48F or so.

A cycle rain cape Not really a 'Poncho' But California has little rain anymore so they use the Mexican wool ones
like Clint Eastwood wore in those 60's westerns ..
Grunden's Bike Poncho I Bought it when introduced as I lived on the windward south slope

and the Squalls Coming off the Sea in the winter dumped a Lot of water down in a short period of Time.

The oldest part of the town developed on the leeward side of the Hill for Good reason ,

more protected from the storms out of the South West . all winter long ..

We dont have Hurricanes on the Pacific Coast.

You get the proper gear and riding in a steady rain isn't so bad. It can be stimulating sometimes.

My bad weather "ride" is a commercial grade recumbent in our basement gym while watching back episodes of NCIS. And don't need no more much younger women watch. Already got one of them, wife, and at 72 don't really need to be dealing with no more than that.

Old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns tend to make trainer time more bearable for me.

You oughta live in Florida..been raining for a month and a half. My wife and I live down a 1/4 mile dirt road, we have been leaving some of our vehicles in the street
for the last few weeks.
I was walking up the drive last night, almost dark, when I noticed I was sharing the road with a Water Moccasin the size of a motorcycle tire. I try and be home while it is still light since then.

I like being stimulated and don't mind being wet but cold and wet is out. The notion of a trainer as punishment has got a hold of me. I can see a generator hooked up to the bike/trainer and that assembly connected to the power grid. For every kilowatt generated, prisoners get a reduced sentence.

It is still raining here and will continue until Sunday. Since I went and bought the trainer, I gave it another 10 minutes this morning with the idea I may toughen up in time. With another 10 minutes or so later today for a total of 20 minutes I may actually get a useful benefit if that effort can be maintained on a daily basis.

I feel for the folks who were doing Cycle North Carolina. Apparently the last two days were cancelled. I didn't hear if there would be refunds or how they would handle getting riders to their cars at either end of the route.

As a commuter, I ride rain or shine (or dark), but I do a session inside on my rowing machine every day. I find that watching movies makes it easier. Selection of movies is real important. If there is a lot of dialogue that you have to pay attention to (and think about) your workout won't be as good as an action movie.

I think I may begin watching Road Runner and Wiley Coyote cartoons to provide a role model for spinning at high cadence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1LV6Fsd2HM

Please send all un-needed rain to California. Here, the drought continues. When it does rain (not often and not much) we celebrate!

I will be happy to cycle in the rain, should I ever have that option!

I'm sure someone on the east coast would be willing to bottle it and send it your way, if you paid the packaging and shipping costs.

Same in WNC. Rain, rain, rain... Haven't ridden in a week and no hope for this weekend. If there is a lull in the rain and radar shows a short break I may boogie down to the bottom of the mountain just to ride/climb it back up to blow off some pent-up cycling frustration!

No kidding, this is the rainiest Florida summer I can remember. The usual summer weather pattern is rain every day for 5 or 10 minutes, this year beats that by a long shot.

We've had a 3+ week stretch with pretty much daily rain of some amount. Mostly due to all the hurricanes/tropical storms going by. In theory el nino is supposed to make this a dry winter (we aren't quite to the rainy season). I don't mind riding in the rain so much, but I hate having to do all the bike clean up afterwards. We had the Hono Century ride last Sun, around the 60 mile point I came up on a woman picking herself off the deck. Said she was OK but hit a pothole hidden by water. Today actually is a great chamber of commerce-style day.

Here rain is often localized. I live sort of on the edge of a rain producing area (about 10 miles away is Poamoho, wettest spot on the island). So when I head out I have to kind of observe the sky and figure out which way is best. Yesterday rains were blowing in from the Koolaus on the trades so I bailed on my normal route and headed west to Ewa (actually, one says "heading Ewa" but that's kind of redundant in this situation) where it is almost always dry until winter storms come through.

I sold my trainer. I also sold my running machine; kept both in the garage. Then I sold the garage. . .

My memory of spin classes was a lot of not so attractive women, and 1-2 hot ones. So, with a little luck or good mirrors you Might have something to distract you from the boredom, might...

And, riding in the rain is pleasant with decent gear.
