The bright side of having a passion for cycling

Recently had a reunion with my 3 siblings, a rare occurrence as we are spread across the country with each in a difference state. Both older brothers (68 & 71 years) were lamenting their physical conditioning. I got them on bikes for an around the block ride, then commanded them to dust-off the ones in their garages. Both have reported back that they did so, one brother even went and bought a new one. Made me happy in a small way. I hope they also get miles of smiles while on their bikes.

Relative to the "Dark side" thread - the bright side is that someone has a nephew who obviously enjoys riding with an uncle. We all need mentors, at every stage in life.

The way I look at it, at 50+, anything you have a passion for is a good thing. Assuming it's not illegal, immoral or immolating, of course. lol

At 75+, having a passion for anything (legal or illegal, moral or immoral or immolating or not) is a wonderment!

"A body in motion tends to stay in motion". That is stolen from a commercial for some kind of rheumatoid arthritis medication, but it is quite true.

Of course, Newton knew this long ago...

You just scored a whole bunch of "good brother" points, kudos, Wildwood, good on you. Now, keep on them to not let it slip by the wayside.

This is absolutely true. Keep doing anything and everything you can. If you set you rust. Im 77 and ride about 30 miles every other day. Im in pretty good shape for my age. Yet I have friends that are younger, that have retired, and do nothing and are in bad shape. Sadly many are gone already.

They live in Nashville and Chicago while I'm left coast so no patrolling their schedule. And they are big brothers, so junior brother holds no sway. And winter is coming so even less motivation to get out. But, family and seasonal dynamics aside, I will try. They are worthy of helping.

Sounds like a good excuse to get the brothers together for a winter cycling vacation somewhere in the sunny south.

I like the sentiments shown in this thread. Whether it's cycling, swimming or any other sporting activity, the key word in the thread title is Passion. Whatever we do, i strongly feel, should be done with passion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ayr7At_FnqU This video is about skiing in serious back-country. I posted the video earlier today in a telemark ski forum. I don't do ski mountaineering but love skiing in the woods and the video and related discussion got me hot for snow to fly. I live where it does not snow much, usually, but in an hour and a half of driving brings me to mountains.

Here's another video of the Catamont Triail in Vermont, which runs the length of the state from north to south. The terrain in typical of where I ski and my technique is brilliantly shown also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7ndt7JZQPc
