Recumbent bicycles

I strained my lower back last week working, so my passion (Mountain biking) had to be skipped that weekend.
I was afraid I'd get all stiff so every day I rode my Easy Racer Tour Easy. Just a little at first, around the block, then more, and more.

Yesterday I did 8 miles in the Big ring in the top four gears and spinning a pretty mean cadence..
I will be on my Mountain bike riding the single tracks tomorrow morning,, all because of my recumbent, It was truly therapeutic for me

I'm telling you over fifty riders who are returning to cycling maybe after decades at a desk job or watching sports on the TV, eating Pizza, drinking beer working on that body by Budweiser,,This I speak from experience..
And to all those riders out there that are starting to feel the DF pain because of your aging body, there is an option.
All you have to do is be willing to choose a different path, loose that fear of being different.

Try a Bent on for size...

This bike:

Helped my body reach a condition where I could ride this bike :

Like a crazy teenager,,I am about to turn 57 and feel like 30 something

Oh yeah,, I'm stronger now so I made it a 1X11,, so so much better :

Won't work for me. I was diagnosed with (lumber) spinal stenosis in June. My spine doc said the bike I definitely didn't want was one that allowed me to sit like that. He said leaning over the bars stretches out my spine and was great therapy. He also recommended a new bike to replace my Cannondale SuperSix EVO

so I got a Cannondale Supersix EVO Hi-Mod Team bike.

I told my wife "I felt like a 30 year old", and she called a divorce lawyer. (ba-da-dum!)

I have much used over the years recumbent. A stationary, Life Fitness 9i, in my basement gym facing a flat panel with a Tivo attached. It's been a good cycling season. The DVR is full.

I find that fitness transfers from bent to diamond frame better than the other way around.

I agree. Riding my bents improves my condition for riding DF bikes.

Hmm... last time I tried to ride my upright a mere 22 miles, I seriously though I wasn't going to make it.

I started riding bents in my 20s, over 30 years ago. Was exclusively bent for most of that time, and now in my dotage, I find that I'm using my DF more. i guess we do return to our childhood as we age.

I thought the recumbent would have a long wheelbase compared to a diamond frame bike. Then I saw a recumbent rider in Santa Barbara with a Scorpion recumbent. Its called a Scorpion because it folds over so that it can be stored inside an SUV.

I ride a short wheel base recumbent and DF cycles, echo the comments that riding the recumbent makes one stronger on the DF. Plus I like the change of scenery between the two types.

Riding a recumbent makes me feel like an old guy. Riding an old-school diamond-frame makes me feel like a kid. At my current age, 62, I'd rather feel like a kid. I might change my mind at 72...we'll see.

BTW: I've had an L4-L5 herniated disk & sciatica for 12 years

Cross training. Throw in a little X-Country skiing, hiking, kayaking, etc. Was never a gym rat. Smell-th-pine life!
