Joining the 60+ club

Tomorrow i'll be 60. Never thought i'd make it and i'm in better shape than I was when I joined the 50+ club. I attribute most of it to cycling and realizing that I only have one body so I need to make it last.

Thanks to everyone here for the support and encouragement. We all need to help the newcomers moving toward better health.

Yeah, welcome to the club! Been a member coming up on three years. It's a good place to hang out, though the dues are a little more than the last club I was in.

You only have one body?? Surely you are aware of the n+1 principle.

I learned in a Human Growth and Development class that Middle Adulthood goes through age 65. Enjoy the rest of your Middle Ages!
(I just became officially Old a few days ago..... )

Oh, you can ride in the cold and snow.

And since I just hit 65, I guess people can now call me old. I've been called worst. ;-)

Ride On!

Congrats on hitting your fitness goals. I'll be joining the 60+ club later this year. I'm also not concerned about being inactive for the next 10 years.

Congratulations, happy birthday and not to forget that aging is not for sissies, but with a healthy well toned body it will be easier.
Apparently doctors are more receptive to healthy well taken care bodies if god forbid they need medical care!

Happy 60th! I have mine in two weeks. Not looking forward to it but reading the posts here now maybe not such a big deal. Every year I go for a ride to ride my age. I hope some day to be able to ride 80 miles on my birthday!

Not to be too grouchy about this but, considering your age and list of bikes, I think that you should be required to change your screen name.

It's a play on my car... a 74 VW Beetle with a 2180cc engine.

Just like me, it's old... and not slow.

Happy 60[SUP]th[/SUP] oldnslow2.

I’ll be turning 60 in a couple months and I’m also in far better shape than I was at age 50, thanks to bicycling.

It was 61* today so I did a belated birthday ride.

It really felt great to be outside and not on a spin bike.

Today was the first opportunity I’ve had to ride since our big snowfall here in southeastern Pennsylvania. I was hoping to head to Valley Forge, PA and back as I often do (a 55 mile ride), but I made it out the door a couple hours later than I should have and then just 2.1 miles into my ride, my road bike got its first flat (rear) tire. By the time I was back up and running, it was too late in the afternoon to head to Valley Forge (and the bike lanes were still mostly snow-covered anyway). So, somewhat disgusted, I reversed direction and headed home, making it a mere 4.2 mile ride, hardly whistle wetter of a ride.

One good thing however; all those days of snow shoveling strengthened my arms, which permitted me to fairly easily use my little pump to inflate my rear tire to 76 PSI, which was easily enough for the short distance home. I always pump them up to their max pressure (120 PSI) using my floor pump prior to heading out on my ride. The debris that punctured my rear tire just missed the protective center strip of my tire. I really can’t complain though because these 700 x 28 tires have nearly 2,000 miles on them and this was the first flat.

Even so, I really missed going the full distance of my ride especially since it was 50°F this afternoon, which is an excellent temperature for me.
