What's the average length of time you spend on your trainer sessions?

currently I ride the trainer twice a week (I also run on treadmill twice a week, and swim laps at ymca twice a week). On the trainer, I watch one of the 4 sufferfest videos I have (I try to add a new one every winter). The videos I have run 50-65 minutes long depending on the video.

On average, I'll spend about 15-20 seconds looking at the trainer and pondering the mind numbing agony of riding it before my thoughts shift to what clothing I'll need to wear to ride in the current weather conditions or, alternately, what in my Netflix cue I want to sit in the recliner and watch.
Seriously, I am really determined to be in better shape than last Spring. And, with the advantage of the Ipad on the handlebars and the training rides on various roads around the world, I find it is really bearable. (And I feel so good after a shower and knowing I did not spend the whole day watching TV).

When I can't get out to ride I do whatever workout I had planed on the roads and transfer it to the trainer. I have a Stages power meter and a garmin speed/distance sensor on the rear wheel of my trainer bike so I can replicate the same intensity that I would on the road. Truth be told the average power of my trainer rides is actually higher than a lot of my road rides.
I can't just aimlessly spin on the trainer or I'll go out of my mind but if I'm doing a structured workout I don't get bored. I haven't tried Zwift yet and since I don't have a smart trainer and am pretty happy with the Kinetic Rock & Roll Fluid Trainer I'm not in a rush to replace it. I still use a few Spinnerval DVD's including one three hour workout that includes a lot of threshold work. When I finish that workout I've ridden 50 pseudo miles. I also have a book of workouts for the trainer based on power, heartrate or perceived effort.
I don't love riding on the trainer but I don't run away from it either. I roll into the spring with pretty good legs and I don't have extra weight to deal with.

When I can't get in adequate miles in the winter, I'll supplement "real" rides with trainer time. I put an audio book in the CD player, and ride one CD's worth of time, about 75 min.

John I didn't see this question till now about my trainer. It is a tacx vortex smart trainer. I purchased it from Indy cycles (on-line) for $529. In my research it was the most reasonably priced smart trainer i could find and was recommended by rainmaker. I had a desktop computer that I put in my basement work out room and hooked up my 42" TV to the computer as a large wall mounted monitor. Other wise bought a ant dongle ($20) and signed up for zwift (free for first 30 miles and then free for another 60 days as I am a strava premium member) and I was up and running on zwift. I as reiterated earlier it totally takes the boredom out of riding a trainer as you are riding with people from all over the world with all different abilities.
For the first time i have kept weight down and am actually losing weight in the winter. I am in the best shape I have been in ever in the winter. After having been on zwift for 45 days, I recently did an an FTP test and I have increased my power from 210 to 304 in that time frame mainly due to zwift. Pretty good for this old guy (56).
Zwift and a smart trainer are highly recommended, if you are interested in doing winter conditioning. It is truly an immersive experience on a trainer.
Please realize I am not connected or employed by zwift in any way, just a satisfied customer to the zwift experience.

I have been using zwift. It makes it very easy to ride with the trainer. Some people on zwift do metric centuries. I am not there yet. I have 420 miles on my trainer this year. I have not joined a group ride yet. I also like using the 20 min Functional threshold power test. Never done that before. I have been improving my FTP. I hope that it will give me a better start to the season. I have done spinervals in the past.

sounds great apesrunner58. Keep up the good work, losing weight and getting in shape. Zwift definitely helps us reach goals.

I have my trainer set up with a wide screen and Apple TV. This gives me YouTube, movies, etc. So I can either watch an interval training session or a host of other things.
A group of us four of us ride two times per week and then drink wine. Works out pretty good.
My wife and I also have been riding our tandem to interval training for 35 - 60 minutes about once per week.

20 to 45 minutes on the rollers depending on how much time I can give it. I've got my smartphone set up with Youtube for GCN training videos and Netflix to take care of the boredom.

Did 71 minutes on Sunday, watching (or riding) through traffic in Osaka Japan. Never knew they drove on the left. Think I will "ride my age" next time (in minutes).

I sold my trainer (Turbo-Trainer) when I moved from St.Louis out here to SoCal 20 years ago. Here we can ride all year round so no worries.
Trainer? Don't miss it.

I get on the trainer just long enough to confirm that I installed the wife's bike securely, then I climb off, tell her "Have fun!" and take my bike outside for a ride.

Lately I have been turning on my tube amp and spinning some of my old vinyl records during my trainer sessions. Play side 1, filp/rest, play side 2. Good for about 40-45 minutes. Time sort of flies by thinking bout the good ole days when music was created my musicians instead of electronics like today music...

I have the same boredom problem and also limit to 40-60 minutes. Listening to music, doing intervals or simulate hill riding doesn't remove the boredom. Luckily the weather in CA is usually good enough to ride and so I have the alternative of riding outside after work for an hour before it gets dark. Riding outside never gets boring

40 minutes with high intensity intervals and Green Day blasting my eardrums. Yes, I am a 67 y/o Green Day fan (along with Old 97's and other rockers.)

As little as possible, but if I have to it is 30 to 40 mn with some intervals, I use rollers closer to the feel of the road! A heart rate monitor is a great help as well.

30 minutes is about all I can stand. If I can find something decent to watch on Netflix then sometimes I can last for 45 to 50 minutes. Based on what I am reading here I'm not going to be in very good shape when the weather warms up.
